I think the Abrams movie casting was great overall. No one was flagrantly miscast, and they all do great in their roles, either as direct homages or their own thing. Urban's Bones is fantastic, but I do think he overdoes the grumpy attitude. Kelley played him much more naturally with more humor and light-heartedness when appropriate.

SNW has also done a great job, though Paul Wesley as Kirk still makes my brain hurt with the age/appearance disconnect. Ethan Peck is so damn good as Spock that it feels like Nimoy took over his body and is still there playing the role. Very keen to see what Jane does as Bones. The other guy playing Sulu is a newbie so we'll just have to wait and see.

Also really hoping they green light Year One and continue from there. Would be a damn shame to strike all those amazing sets and just end it with SNW S5, leaving us only with Academy. I'd love to see both new stories and TOS ones re-imaged like they did with SNW's S1 finale.

SNW reminds me of the Abrams movies more than any of the other new series. I like it but I don’t think I will ever be inclined to rewatch it. None of the characters are that memorable to me. There is a potential to go deeper into their backstories and it just doesn’t go there enough to make them interesting. They kind of all have bland personalities, which I know this isn’t the thing now a days but there are some women on there that have/ could have sex appeal or at least be more interesting because of it. There was a lot of filler in this past season as well.

I wouldn't trust those shill critics.
Trek Culture is usually pretty fair and accurate in their reviews. They're not "new Trek = automatic bad", and are not afraid to call out bad things while still appreciating the good things.

The others? Yeah, I don't necessarily trust them either.

Gonna watch it later this week and draw my own conclusions.

Academy looks so unwatchable. I can't fathom even giving it a try. Go play Mars Matrix.

I think I'm done with Star Trek, it feels like supporting a low tier sports team at this point, just week in week out misery.
I'm done with it since 2005.

I'm rewatching Enterprise....perhaps we judged it too harshly back then.

Also what really butters my biscuit is the terrible lighting they introduced in the 2009 movie and keep using, it's fucking atrocious.

StAr TrEk WaS aLwAyS wOkE!!!!!!
it was progressive, not woke. People who say it's woke are just parroting what talking heads and shills on the internet tell them.

Yes. They gaslit themselves into believing it and are saying it now in the hopes that others just play along. Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth.

I'd watch The Last Jedi again before I'd watch a single episode of this new Star Trek. That's how awful this new show looks.

No way Starfleet gets renewed. It's getting pummeled even by the strong left.
Paramount and liberal media is immediately claiming it's the fascists review bombing it, but no one is buying it this time. It's just bad.

Are we still doing this in 2026? Blaming bad reviews on 'alt right nazis?'

It's like everybody in the access media is just a Fami clone.

While i’m sure Academy is terrible given that it is fruit of the poison tree (Discovery) - did any of you guys actually watch it or are you just engaged in terminally online malding?

I watched the first episode. I was really curious about the art style for "future" star trek. It's some of the worst in the series.
Everything else made me want to die.

Ouch. But not unexpected.

How much do you have to see?! They could hide a good story (which I doubt they did) inside a visibly obvious turd, but that doesn't mean you have to endure the turd portion of the meal to form your opinion. Not eating turd, bro.

Reminds me of the BS with Supergirl Guardian of the Galaxy. All the marketing today is Lobo. "Come see Lobo, PLEASE! Just a little turd sandwich for the main course....but Lobo!"....no

How much do i have to see? I don’t know - i haven't seen any yet. I’ll trust NeoSneth since he has watched it.

Have you watched it?

Once SNW S4 comes out i’ll watch as much as i can stand of Academy, but i dont expect much. Particularly since this seems to be a show for teens first and a Star Trek show second.
