Goldie, yes. I was referring strictly to the style shown and in the US. Blue cab was EU if I recall.

As BB stated there was a SSII dedicated. We had a flyer for it, just never came across one.

I think the blue was so South America. Europe had the lordsvale.

I do not argue the possibility that this is a custom cab, but I just HATE when people immediately shoot down the possibility of there being some rare-bird cab floating around. That is what would make it an exciting find! The argument that the control panel is hard to duplicate does not settle well with me, it would be quite easy to make a pink CPO, all you would have to do is copy and photoshop the original artwork print it out and mount it under plexi (extremely easy). On the other hand I would think the marquee would be a little harder to duplicate, especially with the trouble involved in getting the mini marquee slot correct. On the same note, why would they down grade it to a 1 slot size purposefully and make it an off color purposefully especially entailing all of the effort it would take to make it completely different, especially keeping in mind that it is a Mini cab which is highly sought after and customizing it would only devalue it? The owner told me he has had it for 5 years and it was always like this he never modified it. The Blue foreign MVS cabs were thought to be fakes in the past until it was later verified. The possibility is always out there for new things to be discovered about old hobbies, the Neo community should especially know this. So.... Yeah its possibly a custom job but I have high hopes, and I hope to bring more evidence to the table tomorrow, and if I prove myself wrong, so be it!

One thing I am hoping he lets me do is remove the marquee, if I can see that its a factory made piece by looking at the inside (the letters on real marquees usually have texture on the reverse side) I think that would be key proof

Another thing that would be useful will be its name designation on its serial number badge, does anyone here have a mini that I can compare the serial number sticker with?

Any other suggestions in verifying its authenticity would be appreciated.

The reason for the color choice is to be a 'dedicated' BAM cab. Why this would be done? Well, after about 1996, it was probably the only Neo game that would make money in an arcade.

As for simply printing a pink CPO under a clear sheet of plexi, that would be immediately noticeable. An original CPO is top printed material which I guess is similar to plexi.

Before you assume its a 1 slot just from the marquee, you might ask him to look at the board as well. If there is a 2 slot sitting in there, that would be telling.

I guess its just a perspective thing. See something crazy/unique? Immediately assume a stance of caution and skepticism to avoid being taken advantage of.

Other points to check if he lets you. I believe mini 2 slot had marquee EL panel lights. I don't know what 1 slot cabs had, maybe just a fluorescent tube?

Here is the best pic I can find of a mini 2 slot serial no. plate, this one does look different. Maybe some other forum people with a cab can chime in.

Good luck either way.

To spend do much meticulous time and effort on a money maker? I don't see vendors doing this.

I don't deny the possibility, I gave my perspective from an Operator in the US and what I have seen. I've seen a few custom in shop dedicateds done from other companies to high profile ppl and/or within a company itself. The whole thing comes down to if it was feasible for SNK to do such a thing cost wise for one cabinet as I've never seen anyone else here post a pink 1-slot cab.

Ok guys I am back! and after this more intimate visit I have not doubt that this is a 100% factory made and not custom.
When I got to the shop the on site technician was very accommodating and let me have 100% freedom with the cab, I hope you enjoy the pics and video I captured and I hope afterwards you are as convinced as I am. Please view everything, as I have saved the best for last!

First off I took some more pics of the exterior I took some of the same angles with flash and with no flash so you can get a better idea of the color in real light vs the flash:

As you can see from the Left Player/Right player art they the lettering is pink if this were a decal the lettering would be red, its a paint mask just like they did in the factory

Is seems that there was once a security bracket on the front, and although the front is a little faded you can see the original color here where it used to be covered with a washer

Here is a closeup of the sideart, as you can see its the original vinyl, not repainted the lettering is not vinyl stickers, but paint mask stenciled (like it was usually done by the factory at 3-Koam)

Inside the cab was a MV-1B

Serial number label.

Close up of the marquee

The marquee lighting is a standard fluorescent bulb setup.

Now THIS is where it starts to get exciting!

He removed the marquee so we could inspect it closer ans as you can see it's the real deal, you can see through the entire marquee, if the letters and the lettering had negative texture! it is GENUINE! The Bust-a-Move mini that was inserted was a color copy he had made, the original had gone brittle and crumbled long ago.

Here is a video I took showing the texture of the lettering, it was hard to capture the texture as good as it can be seen in person on my stupid camera but you can still see it, this to me is the proof that this cab was meant to be this way and is not a conversion or a mod.

Finally here is video of the whole cab, I left the place with chills, I am glad to have discovered this cab.

I am personally 100% positive about the authenticity of this pink mini MVS, you guys can think what you want seeing all of its facets in person I am convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Sorry but Nightmare Tony already stated a long time ago that the only color cabs SNK made were the dedicated SS2 and BAM cabs. Anything else was Red.

If anything this is a very good conversion but I doubt it's an original.

The recent pics make this look very real to me. I'm willing to accept the possibility this was some one off by a bored employee or a special order for someone with the company. I normally think things like this are BS, but those pics are pretty convincing. If it was a conversion, it was done by someone with skillz.

Someone contact the real Chad Okada, not the fake AOL one.

I had the same feeling (about a special order) I appreciate your vote of confidence!

I suppose one extremely interesting fact is that the white cab and this pink cab are only 3 apart on their serial numbers...

You may have me convinced that this is a special order one-off. Possibly for a special person or buyer? No clue, the only question I would have is why they stuck with the red CPO though.

Last thing, I don't see it in any pictures, but some cabs have a date hand written in marker inside the cab, usually on the wood under the control panel. Did you happen to notice anything like that?

Can anyone with a mini 2 slot chime in to say whether the red minis have a tube or EL panels behind the marquee?

Cool stuff, sorry if my first posts came off harsh, thanks for taking the time to go back for more info/pics.

HOLY crap~! I did not even notice that the serials were so similar, I did not even think to look at that *keen eye!*
I am going to try to pry more info out of the owner as to where he got it from etc.
As to the penned in date, I did not see one, on my MVS cab it is on the inner wall of the cab (right of the monitor if you are facing the back)
We did not open the back panes, it had security bolts and I did not want to push my luck and bother him about the back, since I did not think anything would be important about the monitor anyway.

Mikhail has a mini two slot in pretty pristine condition. He's had it for years and he said that it came with a replacement 1 MM marquee. His has the 1 fluorescent bulb (no EL MM back lighting) but I don't think any mini came with an EL option but I could be wrong. He didn't think they ever came with ELs either. It's his second mini... the first he got in 2001 which he sold off and the second in 08. Both had the same backlighting.

If you need additional pics hit him up or I can shoot him a note too.

My mini has a tube. Did they even make EL panels for 2 slots? My previous Big Red 2 slot was a tube as well.

The four I have seen around me did not have EL panels. Although my manual for the one I have shows the EL option installed.

Hm, I always assumed the larger 2 slots had EL panels since they came in sets of 2 and that is the same reason why the 1 slots had a tube instead of panels but I only ever owned a 4 slot so maybe that assumption was wrong.

I know the 2 slot motherboard has an EL port, so I'm sure they made panels for it. But like you, none of the dedicated 2 slots I have ever seen in the US had a EL panel installed. Maybe japan, IDK.

+1. I was flat out sure this was a conversion as well, but with the latest batch of pictures I'm warming up to the idea that this was some promo-cab done by SNK. Interesting. Thanks for going back and taking more picts.

I'm not totally convinced yet on this cab. If anything finding out where the guy got it from might make it possible to track it down to where it was originally at. Still smells like a very nice conversion to me.

Fucking pink tho........ *vomit

I'm back from Siberia! Jesus, has it been four months? This time in the gulag it felt like four years, but at least they took out my tracking chip implants and I'm allowed to assimilate myself back into normal American society.

Teddy gave me a heads up on this thread and I saw Geo's FB post. Honestly, after seeing the pictures Geo posted, this looks like it may be the real deal. However, the pink marquee is a concern. I have a NOS single slot marquee and I sold one to Mattroid several years ago. You can see pictures of it bubble wrapped here:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=243848

AFAIK, it's pure red just like all the other MVS marquees. Any chance this cab was just out in a sunny area and the entire thing got sunfaded? Was the control panel replaced afterwards? The serial number sticker font looks slightly different than what I recall on mine. Maybe as someone mentioned, this was part of the initial run before they dialed in the colors.

I say we do a roll call of Neo mini red owners and get serial numbers going to see where this one falls in. I can prob chime in soon, definitely less than another four months from now.

The sticker on this one is a totally different size from the ones on the red mini 2s, Mikhail. It is the same size as used on the dedicated 1 slots and reads the same saying "NEO-GEO MVS" (large 2-slots say NEO-GEO MVS-2 for example).

Would be interesting to see how the serial falls in line though. The proximity to the white cab leads me to believe that either that range was reserved for special stuff or maybe special colors were only offered for a brief time.

I just did a image search on google and found this pic, this mini has the same size serial number label that the pink one does

ci-120704121718-960.jpg

The color is a vivid pink in person, even if it were just a faded cab it would still be a curiosity given the fact that it is a one slot instead of a 2.

Hm interesting, that is one clean looking mini, I couldn't come up with many good pics of the serial no. stickers during my search yesterday. The closest I got was this one which starts to show the smaller sticker version on a mini cab.

I kinda do hope it's an original. I'm not trying to piss on the thread but after years & years of being in the "scene" you get very very very jaded.
