Coming in October.

Coming in at $400.

I'm all about early adopting, I'll probably preorder one of these (nvm, looks like it's already selling out everywhere).

Looks interesting but I will pass. I can't even play the 3DS in 3D mode for 5 mins before getting nauseous.

Yeah I'm all set with VR. This is officially where the old man draws a line in the sand.

Just be aware that PSVR will have some serious limitations due to the PS4 hardware.
You need a minimum of 75fps for two screens to minimize jutter, so imagine PS4 games that actually be dual rendered at that FPS.

Despite the limitations, it's expected to be one of the more popular VR headsets this year.

its an expensive bandwagon to hop on before actually testing it out in person

I may end up cancelling my Rift pre-order, it would be nice to demo the unit first

I want to buy this just for Rez. I'll probably end up getting it if it's not sold out though Christmas - I love Rez that much. The 100ft Golf game will be a nice bonus, even though I should boycott that game on moral grounds.

Rez? Really? This a new Rez or just updated for VR? Isn't base price for all the other VR on the market $300? $400 seems high, especially since the system isn't even that much. Yeah it's new kit but still.

The last time i played anything VR was "Dactyl Nightmare". I'm interested, but not $400 interested.

That's the only VR experience I've had too. I thought it was so amazing back in the day, but it made my buddy terribly motion sick. :)

As a glasses wearer I'm always highly skeptical of things like this. I'm guessing if I can't comfortably wear those stupid 3D movie glasses over my normal specs, then VR is a bust too.

Yeah, I'm not hardcore enough to spend that kind of coin. Not saying the tech isn't worth $400 at this point, just saying that I'm poor these days.

I am going to wait a few years and see how the cards fall before dropping 400 on the PVR or 600 on the Rift. The Playstation Eye and Kinect shit didn't pan out not sure how this will either.

We knew it was going to be expensive, but it still seems hard to justify a $400 accessory. I'm still interested in trying one. I just doubt I'll own one any time soon. Maybe after a few revs and price drops.

Oh, and thanks for the Dactyl Nightmare reference. My God, I played that game as a kid and I never knew what it was called. I had been wondering for years. That was such an amazing experience back in the day, and I'm still amazed that it's taken this long to get something like that in the home market. If I were a decade younger, I'd probably be in line to grab a PSVR on launch. I could see a younger me really hyped for it, but the older me has much different interests and pursuits these days and I can't justify spending that kind of dough on gaming.

Still, it will be cool to see where this tech goes in the future.

More impressed with them at gdc than rift but vive still takes the cake by a long shot.

I'm sure the reduced resolution needed to run the LCD in each eyepiece will make up for any hardware limitations.

I think the $399 price is perfectly fine, but I really think the camera should have been included at that price.

Isn't the PS4 camera basically required for this thing to work ? I know it's only another $50 or $60, but still. Sony using the old psychological rope a dope... Trying to make their product look way cheaper than it really is. By the time you buy the PS4 camera and two move controllers and a couple of decent games, you're paying nearly the same price as Oculus. So, it's not really as cheap as it might seem.

Having said all of that, I've seen some footage of various PS VR games that actually look damn good. In fact, many of them look almost too good... How is the PS4 hardware actually pulling this off ?

Battlezone by Rebellion is one that I'm particularly interested in... Reminds me a wee bit of Assault Rigs from the PS1 days... There is a game called VR Worlds or something like that... it includes the London Heist stuff and some interesting space game... That looks pretty cool.

I don't really want to wait all the way till October though. I'm very tempted by the HTC Vive roomscale thing, just don't want to spend a small fortune.... Ah, decisions decisions...

It's a 1080p update/remake of Rez HD that's playable either with or without the VR headset. It has the original levels/bosses and they've added a new level called "Area X."

Btw, the only true way to play Rez Infinite is while wearing a Synesthesia Suit:

(I noticed there are no groin vibrators. Missed opportunity there. I'm sure some crazy person will fix fix that for their DIY home suit.)

Yeah. When I google searched and stopped being lazy I saw that wired article. That is pretty rad. It was cool to know Mizuguchi worked on it. Is it sad that I would maybe buy a $400 vr to play a Rez remake with an added area?

Rez is the only reason I'm buying the PSVR day one. I would probably hold out if that wasn't being released. I know he doesn't have any plans on releasing the suit, but I do hope he releases the schematics/program for it.

How well this VR stuff takes off is also dependent on how good / feasible its "cinema" mode is, that is having a personal TV.

It would be competing with laptops, handhelds and tablets in that space. So if it provides a more comfortable, and compelling way to watch or play games, it might succeed, even if people get bored with games that require you to flail about.

Not really, I can use my gear vr or freefly for cinema mode and it works great. I doubt many people will be buying these for that.

Cinema mode? You can buy a Viewmaster VR and put your cell phone in that if all you wanna do is watch porn an inch from your face.
