JP system and a Unibios for less than half what you paid and you could still play games in English if you wanted.

Not interested in Unibios, voltage converters, etc. All of my other systems are US. I wanted a US Neo Geo. I'm not going to buy something I don't want just to save some money.

This guy is back in the game and balling it hard. Let him have his US system baller status if he wants to pay for it. Good for him.

Haha no plans to ball hard. I'm mainly interested in the early games from when I was a little kid and they're pretty cheap. Only expensive game I plan to buy is SVC Chaos.

You're saying this like they're vastly different like the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom were. There is no real distinction between JP and US home systems besides the BIOS. I could see where you were coming from if you had bought some boxed US Gold System in nice shape, but this is not the case. You bought a loose console that looks like it has seen better days, who the fuck shells out a grand for that?

I've seen recent auctions end for over a grand in much worse condition. I felt like playing Neo Geo yesterday. I went to my local store and paid the going rate for a US AES and then I played it with my friends and had fun. Waiting several weeks in the hopes of saving a hundred bucks and then hoping the system works well and is in a condition I'm happy with wasn't worth it to me.

Technically,

The USA Neo Geo should have an FCC ID sticker under the system and also RF shielding inside, but of course because this was SNK, there are exceptions to this. Lastly, a genuine USA model will have a soldered System ROM with actual wave soldering that matches the rest of the board.

Yes, removing the FCC ID sticker, RF shielding and soldering in a Japan System ROM (or putting in a chip socket) would 100% make the system indistinguishable from your average Japan system these days.

Holy shit, autism.

There is an FCC sticker. The serial number is 15,215. It's a 120V/5V power supply. I only wanted a US AES with original power supply and original AV cables. Getting exactly what I wanted was more important to me than price.

I owned US systems back in the 90's when there wasn't an option to buy a Japanese one for less.

Now I just use a Japanese system with the official SNK Japansse AC adapter plugged directly into a US outlet, because that works fine. Better yet, you can just buy the mighty Triad replacement supply for it, which is inexpensive and US spec.

I guess what in saying is there will come a time when all original power supplies are dead. Do you never play Neo Geo again when that day comes?

I am an odd duck and it's hard to say what I would do. If I had to guess, I think I would get a third-party power supply. but it's definitely possible I would never play Neo Geo again.

AES systems are truly hitting some tempting sell-off prices these days it seems...

How long until a bog standard Japanese system hits $999? MSL can you hook a bro up? Everyone needs a second AES, you need one in Japanese to get that lovely Mai booby bounce.

Out of the hobby 16 years. Gets the bug has to play that same day. THAT DAY!!!!

Totally normal functioning adult.

I have un-modded US system I have no use for. I thought maybe I’d get $500 for when I list it…but what the fuck, I’ll take a cool grand from some goob.

I remember wanting to get the Genny version as a kid because it was only 19.99 when all the other games were $50+ at Electronice Boutique
Damn, memories of this game at pizza hut back in the day waiting for my personal pan pizza that I got free from that book it club in school.

I always lost to Southside, lol. Then I would play Mortal Kombat II or Street Fighter depending on which pizza hut I went to.

I beat this game last year though. Pain in the ass.

I love that this guy thought everyone was going to be hyped that he got a Neo at an absolutely outrageous price. Like it was proof of his fandom.

Surely the guys at NG.com are going to appreciate and support this, we're all Neo fans huzzah!

Instead he just got rightfully shat on.

Didn't help that he bumped that 20 year old thread about the release date first in a manner that only a true autist could manage.

It seems like prices have dropped lately actually. A couple years ago, home systems were a bit pricier. The post-covid boom I guess. I mean, still expensive, but there's been a dip.

Edit:
But not that US console. Yeah, that shit's crazy.

Ebay is flooded with Japanese AES and the sellers are always undercutting each other. Hard to see the price climbing to 1k any time soon. Too much supply.

US AES are rarely posted and most of the ones posted have crazy prices of 4-12k nobody would ever pay. So when someone posts one for 1200 or 1400, it sells. If you're very patient and don't mind a unit with plastic chunks chipped off, maybe you can get one for 800.

You know how many sellers are hating on the potential drop? lol covid brought out the greeeeedd.

A lot of them are turning into the "I know whut I have$"
