//Thread won.I have a spare authentic US console bios. If I solder it into a Japanese console and throw away the box, it will double in value!
I'm not interested in having my Neo Geo modded and I want to play in English, so I wanted a US system. Also, I prefer to use the proper voltage.
Look, I'm not gonna bust your balls here like everyone else is. The only real reason I can surmise you paying more then normal the cost for an unboxed U.S. system is you bought it from a brick & mortar store.Paid too much compared to what though? How close have you been following US AES sales lately? I've been following very closely. Why should I take financial lessons from you? What are your qualifications?
I know very well what unibios does. I have zero interest in a modified system. In addition so Samurai Shodown II, there are codes for KOF '94 & '95 as well. Very few games I want have censorship and most of the ones that do have codes that get around it.
Not only has it been years since you fucked around with an unmodded system, but it's clearly also been years since you've tracked prices of US systems.

While I do enjoy supporting local places when shopping as there's a store like that in my town, I realize that you will almost always pay more for the ability of showing up to a local place instead of buying online. Stores like that aren't as common as they used to be so yeah you're helping them by paying a little extra for costs like overhead and whatnot.
If you don't mind paying the extra cash to support your favorite store I won't fault you as I've done it also. However like I said before patience when shopping around can easily net you items you'd like at a much lower cost then what you'd normally would pay.
I still feel you paid a premium for an unboxed console and really like everyone else here has told you there really isn't THAT much value of a U.S. system when you don't even have the box for it compared to a Japanese one.
Unless you're intentionally trying to inflate the value of the system then I hope you'll stop doing that as folks here frown on price gouging tactics like that.
*sigh* Well your 1st mistake is using Ebay as a base for pricing. Along with the tax and other costs these days sellers are forced to pay, Prices on Ebay are HUGELY inflated above the norm. So yeah you really DID spend over the normal price for a loose system.I spent a couple weeks closely monitoring unboxed US systems on ebay. An unboxed system with two sticks and one game (Magician Lord) went for over $1,400. Plus tax and shipping. The only US systems under a thousand shipped/taxed had significant cosmetic damage, typically plastic chunks cracked off from the shell of the unit. And still close to $900 with significant damage I wouldn't be comfortable with.
So no, I really didn't spend more than the normal cost for an unboxed US system. Unboxed US systems have just been going for more than you guys realized.
I didn't go to my local store expecting to buy a Neo Geo that day. I was surprised he had a US system in stock. I tested it out and it worked great. Stick in great shape. Sticker price was $1299. He said he'd do $999 flat for me. It didn't make sense to me to keep hunting on ebay for weeks on end to maybe save a hundred dollars.
I'm not trying to inflate the value of anything. I'm never going to sell my Neo Geo. I only sold my last one because I had to buy a home. Told myself I would rebuy one when able and now was able.

*Tilts head* Are you that in a rush or have that much money to blow on stuff like this? I mean when I read this comment...Where do you want me to buy from? How much time do you want me to spend? To save what amount of money?
No interest in the box. If it had come with the box, I would have thrown it away.

This came off as some lameass kind of flex to me.
People here have saved hundreds of dollars by being frugal. The market isn't the same as it was ten years ago I admit but even so, there's a reason some of us have larger home collections then a lot of people here because we were either here since the start or we're just patient and quietly shop around the forums or other places to find the games we want.
Myself personally, I stopped just buying anything and now am very selective on what I want on the grounds of what I want to actually play these days. Also no offense to any fans here but Art of Fighting 2 is a terrible game to me. Horrible controls overall and just very messy. The 3rd game I think overall looks and plays better. Hell even the 1st game plays better to me.
I was going to joke that he'd been monitoring the market for weeks on eBay, so clearly he's an expert, but he beat me to the punch.I spent a couple weeks closely monitoring unboxed US systems on ebay.
I don't recall I didn't pay attention to his teeth, lol I think the shop was called Low?Is that the guy with gold teeth??
No. That was his 3rd mistake.*sigh* Well your 1st mistake is using Ebay as a base for pricing.....
A hand job and two tickets to see the Ottawa Paraplegics Amateur Dramatics Society version of Starlight Express.Ask neo_mao what he'd sell his US Neo Geo AES system for.
I'm just gonna agree to disagree with you. Eventually you'll find out like everyone else did. I'll just take beef's advice and let you decide on your own. I'm sorry you ended up paying so much but yeah. I hope you're happy with it.

That's assuming he has a wife, what kind of woman would put up with this guyI’d probably let it go for a nice condition Japanese system and naked pics of his wife…but of course that depends on how attractive his wife is.
Needing to sell a neo geo console to help fund a downpayment? Lol I call bullshit.
You're saying you paid for a house in cash by selling off your hoard of collectibles? It wasn't a down payment. I don't believe in loans. I pay cash for everything. To buy a home free and clear in cash in my late 20s required selling lots of video games, Magic cards, rare 45s, etc that had skyrocketed in value.
