I'm not interested in having my Neo Geo modded and I want to play in English, so I wanted a US system. Also, I prefer to use the proper voltage.

Paid too much compared to what though? How close have you been following US AES sales lately? I've been following very closely. Why should I take financial lessons from you? What are your qualifications?

I know very well what unibios does. I have zero interest in a modified system. In addition so Samurai Shodown II, there are codes for KOF '94 & '95 as well. Very few games I want have censorship and most of the ones that do have codes that get around it.

Not only has it been years since you fucked around with an unmodded system, but it's clearly also been years since you've tracked prices of US systems.
Look, I'm not gonna bust your balls here like everyone else is. The only real reason I can surmise you paying more then normal the cost for an unboxed U.S. system is you bought it from a brick & mortar store.

While I do enjoy supporting local places when shopping as there's a store like that in my town, I realize that you will almost always pay more for the ability of showing up to a local place instead of buying online. Stores like that aren't as common as they used to be so yeah you're helping them by paying a little extra for costs like overhead and whatnot.

If you don't mind paying the extra cash to support your favorite store I won't fault you as I've done it also. However like I said before patience when shopping around can easily net you items you'd like at a much lower cost then what you'd normally would pay.

I still feel you paid a premium for an unboxed console and really like everyone else here has told you there really isn't THAT much value of a U.S. system when you don't even have the box for it compared to a Japanese one.

Unless you're intentionally trying to inflate the value of the system then I hope you'll stop doing that as folks here frown on price gouging tactics like that.

I spent a couple weeks closely monitoring unboxed US systems on ebay. An unboxed system with two sticks and one game (Magician Lord) went for over $1,400. Plus tax and shipping. The only US systems under a thousand shipped/taxed had significant cosmetic damage, typically plastic chunks cracked off from the shell of the unit. And still close to $900 with significant damage I wouldn't be comfortable with.

So no, I really didn't spend more than the normal cost for an unboxed US system. Unboxed US systems have just been going for more than you guys realized.

I didn't go to my local store expecting to buy a Neo Geo that day. I was surprised he had a US system in stock. I tested it out and it worked great. Stick in great shape. Sticker price was $1299. He said he'd do $999 flat for me. It didn't make sense to me to keep hunting on ebay for weeks on end to maybe save a hundred dollars.

I'm not trying to inflate the value of anything. I'm never going to sell my Neo Geo. I only sold my last one because I had to buy a home. Told myself I would rebuy one when able and now was able.

*sigh* Well your 1st mistake is using Ebay as a base for pricing. Along with the tax and other costs these days sellers are forced to pay, Prices on Ebay are HUGELY inflated above the norm. So yeah you really DID spend over the normal price for a loose system.

That's one of many reasons people sell their stuff here & on other places other than ebay because not only you can get better prices as a buyer, there's less chances you'll get fleeced in places like this as we're known here to protect people here from people who have obviously no clue or are retarded enough to think their shit is worth more then it really is.

While I don't think I need to remind you, The only difference between a U.S. and JP cart is really the system it's being plugged into. A U.S. AES system honestly isn't that big of a deal over a Japanese one seeing as how easily it is to get a Unibios. You can simply change what region your console plays games in and have access to all regions of the game you'd like to enjoy.

If I ever got another U.S. system, I'd just have the Unibios slapped into it and not worry about green blood or w/e else gets censored as I can just choose what I want.

Where do you want me to buy from? How much time do you want me to spend? To save what amount of money?

*Tilts head* Are you that in a rush or have that much money to blow on stuff like this? I mean when I read this comment...

No interest in the box. If it had come with the box, I would have thrown it away.

This came off as some lameass kind of flex to me.

People here have saved hundreds of dollars by being frugal. The market isn't the same as it was ten years ago I admit but even so, there's a reason some of us have larger home collections then a lot of people here because we were either here since the start or we're just patient and quietly shop around the forums or other places to find the games we want.

Myself personally, I stopped just buying anything and now am very selective on what I want on the grounds of what I want to actually play these days. Also no offense to any fans here but Art of Fighting 2 is a terrible game to me. Horrible controls overall and just very messy. The 3rd game I think overall looks and plays better. Hell even the 1st game plays better to me.

Not a flex. I don't save boxes for traditional consoles, only mini consoles. I have the way I like to do things and it doesn't matter to me if it makes sense to other people. Everyone should have fun however they like to have fun.

I wasn't in too much of a rush, but I was happy I had finally gotten back into my neo-geo.com account after being locked out for many years and it felt fun to buy a Neo Geo the very same day. The fun I had that day was well worth whatever small amount of money I didn't save by meticulously searching the internet for months on end.

I purposely keep a very small game collection. 10 systems, 100 games. If I want a game or system, I sell one to make room. Because I only focus on my absolute favorites, I'm not as concerned with saving every dollar possible. I want my gaming hobby to be as stress free as possible with the little spare time I have.

As for Art of Fighting 2, my interest in Neo Geo as a kid was the very early days. Mainly 90-92. So Fatal Fury 1, World Heroes 1, Art of Fighting 1, etc are some of my favorites. I want part 2 in each series as well though because I do remember the sequels coming out and playing them a bit, even if I preferred the originals. Once each series got to part 3, I had already moved on to 3DO and was busy with that.

I'm just gonna agree to disagree with you. Eventually you'll find out like everyone else did. I'll just take beef's advice and let you decide on your own. I'm sorry you ended up paying so much but yeah. I hope you're happy with it.

Guys, there is no point arguing with him or trying to convince him otherwise. He's a brick wall that is totally fine with his purchase even though it was batshit and makes zero sense. I figured this out eight fucking pages ago, and I am uncomfortable being the smartest guy in the room.

Seriously, there are worse people here than him. Much worse.

A hand job and two tickets to see the Ottawa Paraplegics Amateur Dramatics Society version of Starlight Express.

I’d probably let it go for a nice condition Japanese system and naked pics of his wife…but of course that depends on how attractive his wife is.

I was going to joke that he'd been monitoring the market for weeks on eBay, so clearly he's an expert, but he beat me to the punch.

How many gaming markets do you spend time monitoring and wouldn't that time be better spent monitoring the actual markets so that you're not sweating a hundred bucks so much?

That's assuming he has a wife, what kind of woman would put up with this guy

Needing to sell a neo geo console to help fund a downpayment? Lol I call bullshit.

It wasn't a down payment. I don't believe in loans. I pay cash for everything. To buy a home free and clear in cash in my late 20s required selling lots of video games, Magic cards, rare 45s, etc that had skyrocketed in value.

You're saying you paid for a house in cash by selling off your hoard of collectibles?
