A friend sourced a shipping container full of candy cabs and beat games from Japan, and offered me a neglected Astro City for a price too good to pass up. I wasn’t able to get the old control panel cleaned up to a satisfactory level, so I gave up and bought this NOS control panel instead.

Spent a fair amount of time scrubbing decades of nicotine off the inside and outside of the machine and installed the new control panel;

Also thanks to @wyo for the DonPachi pcb!

And also picked up these two over the last month, gradius collection came in just in time for me to miss the deadline for August shmup of the month:

I’m in the market for a 65” TV. Been looking at Sony but maybe I should be looking at Panasonic. With so many models it’s difficult to nail one down. I don’t need the best of the best but I also don’t want any jank. Recommendations for a model number in the 65” range?

I purchased a Hisense 65 inch U7, low input lag, dedicated game settings to minimize issues with modern games, and integrated with google so that they can listen to every single thing you do (convenient when you talk about shows and they magically get offered). It's great, 10/10 recommend for gaming.

Costco had literal bargain bin sets in the 55-75 range for $300-500. I don’t want one of those.

I typically wait for others to upgrade and take their old TV.

They did the same thing in Japan before we got the Master System with the SG1000, 2, SC3000, Master System.

They should have focused more on the International tastes with the Saturn. which for the Genesis was their bread and butter. SEGA Japan had their heads up their ass sniffing their own farts not listening to SEGA America and having concurrent games/ chipsets developed. Would have been nice to have agame that incorporated sonic r or the 3d level in the collection with a proper 2d game.

Dreamcast playing dvds on the native console would definitely have given them a head start over everyone else even if it costed more.

Sega would've fared better had they not released the CD and 32X. They made a monumental investment during this period with the Sega Channel, which, of course, was ahead of its time. Then Saturn could have been released using the back console's cartridge slot to be backwards compatable with genesis games and be able to run 32x and then made the memory card and net cart in the same vein. CD's library could have been made a little better overtime for the Saturn and use the VCD card used overseas to help that out while the real deal games that used the power of the Saturn came about. The Dreamcast, then, could have been the next thing with DVD playback, which would have been a better investment. Instead, they used a big amount of resources for the GD-ROM media, of which, a good portion of the games didn't even use the full data of the disc as some were pitted with dummy files to make up the file. As seen, when later on, lots of games could be written on a 700mb disc although some needed things cut. PS2 is a beast that couldn't be slayed as a result, but had Dreamcast came out with DVD first, it might have shot down the momentum a little bit for Sony.
