Hey all,

So I've successfully taken the paint and rust off of my cab and had the old battery replaced yesterday.

The boards were cleaned of all dirt and dust a few weeks ago as well!

So I guess the "guts" are good for the most part.

Now I need to get new buttons, sticks, and redesign the sides.

And to be honest, I kind of like the look of the metallic panel with the overlay.

So I was just wondering:

What are your preferred buttons/sticks? I'm not a big fan of the oblong shape of Happ sticks and concave buttons don't seem incredibly responsive.

Have you done a redesign/recolor of your big red cab? I'm looking for some interesting ideas currently I'm just thinking of repainting the cab with a fresh coat of red but redesigning the Neo Geo logo. I was looking at fighting game title screens like Savage Reign's for inspiration.

I like that bright pop and wavy style that really captures that rad 90s-ness.

Since it's an original cab and not a conversion I'd say stick with the original sideart.

For buttons you can try the convex happ competition buttons. For whatever reason they feel like they have a quicker response and require less force than the concave happs.

Remove the battery from the board as it's possible it could be starting to leak or already has and just install a fresh one. Do it now before it goes bad and eats traces.

I installed all seimitsu hardware on my big red I picked up recently. I went with the screw in style 30 mm buttons. They will fit without widening the holes on the CP. They just need a little persuasion. I used a rubber 2lb dead blow. You will also need to replace the terminal ends on the wires with smaller .110 style

Also installed ls-32 joysticks. Mounting plate was too narrow, so I ground some notches on the sides with a bench grinder, it now slips in between the stock threaded studs on the CP. Simply threaded down washer and nut over top.

I saved the old huge dust washers from the happ sticks and stuck them between overlay and panel. Smaller dust washers from ls-32 sits on top.

I believe the mounting plate on some sanwa sticks is wide enough, you just need to drill new holes.

3 Options imo.
1: Neo Candy Cab Option: Seimitsu LS-40 / Seimitsu PS14-KN
2: Sanwa Option: Sanwa JLF / Sanwa OBSF-30
3: My custom preferred: Seimitsu LS-58 / Seimitsu PS14-GN

I like the above 3. My FAV is option 3.

The metal tabs on japanese button switches are smaller than the american cherry microswitches. You will need to cut off the larger quick disconnects and crimp on smaller .110 size.

god damn I had no idea a ls-32 could be so easily mounted like that! I love my sanwa JLW's but I might just need to try this.

thanks alot

EDIT: on second thought I realize that's not even a ls-32 lol which one is it? any idea if it has the same mounting plate as a ls32?

that is a ls-32. maybe you're thinking of the ls-32-02 which has the pin connector instead of the multiple switch terminals.

The stock mounting plate is the same size on both models.

I assume the mounting plate for the LS-58 is the same size as the LS-32?

Update: Just painted the CPO! I used rustoleum universal black gloss spray paint/primer and rustoleum gloss clear ultra cover.

It was my first time painting anything and I followed Jaelus' instructions: paint, dry overnight, clear coat, dry overnight. Luckily it was incredibly hot the past few days so I think it dried pretty well.
