I loved his voice. I would have loved to have seen the Specials in their prime. I bet most of you have heard a song or two and maybe enjoyed it while it was playing, but here is my favorite live performance by them:

Absolutely gutted. I saw the Specials live shortly after their latest album Encore came out. He looked so full of energy then, was shocked when I heard he died. Early 60s isn’t exactly old these days.

The Bodysnatchers are more rock-steady than anything-of course that’s Ska adjacent.
That Dance Craze movie + soundtrack is a great 2tone era primer.
