RIP to a great singer from an underrated band. I enjoyed seeing them live close to 10 years ago, but seeing them in the early 80s would have been something else.

Absolutely gutted. I saw the Specials live shortly after their latest album Encore came out. He looked so full of energy then, was shocked when I heard he died. Early 60s isn’t exactly old these days.

Here’s Terry with Amy Winehouse in 2009.

Damn, ope-lol. Too soon!

One of my ‘if I had a time machine’ bills: Specials/Madness/Selecter during their ‘79-‘80 run.

Which led to this gem:

Godspeed you, Mr. Hall.

Madness is great too. I don’t think I know Selecter. I guess I should check that out.

You absolutely should check out the The Selecter, Bad Manners, and Bombskare in that order.

PS. If you have time, try Big Fat Panda, a friendly split from Bombskare.

The Bodysnatchers are more rock-steady than anything-of course that’s Ska adjacent.

That Dance Craze movie + soundtrack is a great 2tone era primer.

3rd wave bands are a whole different kettle of fish; however, Pilfers are my favorite of them.
