Hiya folks!

I've designed a couple upgrades for the Gamecube and the original Xbox to start with. You can purchase these directly from my website. Expect more new stuff in the new year.


However, if you have a 3d printer or access to one, my designs are open source so feel free to print them out for yourself.

I think the idea is that you can use a larger diameter fan, which makes less noise.

If you unplug the stock 50mm, and put the cube case back together, it will go into thermal shutdown after a short while. Maybe 30 minutes to an hour.

I learned this the hard way.

Why would you unplug the stock fan though? That just seems like a bad idea in general.

You wouldn't.

However if it fails, the cube will go into thermal shutdown. And I had a fan fail, that's why I know what happens when no fan is present.

Maybe I'm missing something...but if your/replacement fan fails, wouldn't you have the same issue?

Of course.

But I was replying to shroom's comment if the Cube needed one to begin with.

There is a popular mod for the Gamecube that uses the 50mm Noiseblocker fan. Those fans are total garbage. Mine died after 3 hours of use. The Cube powered off somewhere around 30-ish minutes of no fan. The outside of the console was scorching hot and you could actually smell the electronics. So yeah, they need a fan.

And 50mm is a super uncommon fan size, so I designed the replacement fan mount to use a regular 40mm fan like the Noctua which is an ultra quiet and super reliable fan. The Noctua will probably outlast the rest of the Cube.

The Noctua fans(as seen in Yodd's images) are also whisper quiet and more effective. They are a common upgrade to many electronics. I have two of those fans on my 3D printer.
