If this thing gets cheaper I can easily see myself using this for strictly an easy to carry web browser. Most of the time I find myself wanting to surf the web in commute/carpooling, on the can, while waiting in line at the market, but not wanting to have it be on a small phone screen. It would save me tons of time instead of having to catch up on my news at home and then getting sucked into NG and other time consuming portals. I want something that I can just hold in one hand and navigate with the other, not laying down to type something out.

But only if it gets cheaper, much cheaper. Which likely won't happen.

I find myself wanting to do the same, although i personally find the ipad too big to be truly portable. i plan on getting the dell mini 5 when it's available tho. 5" screen phone. Best of both worlds.

I've had some time to spend with my buddy's iPad....

I also have a Toshiba tablet PC (given to me...I would have never bought one). Comparing the iPad to a tablet PC is like comparing apples and oranges. They don't do the same thing and both work completely different. Having used both, I can assure the iPad is nothing like a tablet PC...nothing.

With that said...I will be getting one...soon.

Before you all start throwing "apple fanboy!!!" rocks at me...let me explain.

I need a mobile, around the house web browser...and little else. Sure, I might use the iPad for a few other things but for the most part, it will be a convenient, portable and extremely quick web browser. For those that haven't used one, it is fucking fast with internet use...and I mean fast. Even over my wireless G network here at home, it is screaming fast. I guess it's the clean OS that allows for this. I use the internet constantly for many things...I could go into detail but I'll just leave it at that. Having something that is extremely portable, silent, fast and having such a long battery life being moved from room to room is very appealing to both my wife and I...having a very mobile 2 year old also makes a stationary desktop difficult to use much of the time.

Now...some would ask me why I just wouldn't get a laptop...well, that's a valid question. I don't need a laptop nor do I want one. I have a full featured desktop to make my movies, edit my pictures and to do other complex tasks I wouldn't do simply sitting there on the couch. Hell, even a small laptop is weighty, awkward, hot and require more charging that the iPad offers. Most laptop's mouse pads are shit (I normally use a separate mouse when I'm on the road...something I would do around the house) As for Apple laptops, don't get me started about how much they are...yikes.

I think the iPad fits a small market. It will sell well because of the piece of fruit on the back of the thing but in some people's life (like mine) it will be well used.
