Sony Wega Focus issue

So I was browsing Facebook marketplace and I found someone 5 min away selling a 27 inch Wega with the matching silver stand for free. I said screw it, why not. I already have one but could make use of another one for my dvd collection or mister setup.

Tv looks great and works fine but it's a little bit out of focus. Like the small credit letters on neo games look blurry. It's not a sharpness thing, I believe its the focus that's slightly off.

I've seen Todds thread to get into the service menu. Is it something I could fix in there or is there a focus pot inside the tv I need to adjust?

It should be fixable. It depends on the model but it’s probably all done in menus with a Wega. Make sure you understand the procedure before you make any changes, take pictures of current settings, etc.

If its just the corners being blurry you need to fix it via opening it up and putting convergence strips.

If it is blurry everywhere you need to adjust the focus pot on the flyback.

First of all, if you have a "VM" setting in the regular menu make sure it's off. It's on by default and does weird things with the sharpness. It does really weird things to small text.

Second, https://www.neo-geo.com/forums/inde...-tips-tricks-and-settings-suggestions.235099/

I believe this setting was set to high when I checked and I switched it to low. I'll turn it off.

In that thread Todd made which you posted. Are those number values that he set on his TV?

Just a heads up. I tried fixing the focus issue through the service menu and just way too many options so after messing around for like 20 minutes I gave up and set everything back to default.

I removed the back shell and adjusted the focus on the black knob. That helped but wasn't what really fixed the issue. I had to move the sliders around on the neck to get all the colors to match up. I was getting like a shadow effect on the letters. That was what really cleared up the image. It took me damn near 1 hour to get everything looking as close to normal as I could get it. Now it looks much nicer.

Thanks for the help guys.
