I'll start it off for Progear. Plugged in the big green surfboard for a couple runs last night. I foolishly missed the 1up in the 4th stage then fell apart after that. Just warming up!

I've never actually owned either of these games. So took a spin on fightcade last night. Yeah... going to take a little practice to get some decent scores.

I'm down for some Progear. Which region are we using? The US version's default difficulty is 2 and the JP version is 4.

Didn't realize there were region differences. I'm using a JP board on level 4, so let's go with that?

JP progear / 4 is fine with me. I'll put that in the OP and update scores shortly.

I've been away for too long... Maybe it's time to dust off the old Progear, although i've never been able to do a decent run on that god forsaken game :crying:

Dooooo it!

It's all about the bullet cancels - a well timed cancel can clear out a whole screen full of messy patterns.

This. I'm still learning it myself. Admittedly I suck at horizontal shmups but I try to pick things I haven't played much for SOTM now as opposed to stuff I'm already good at.

Free bump!

Jeneki - 6,871,000 - Stage 4 - Ring/Nail - Mame (Japan rom)

I somehow pulled off a Garegga-gameover, getting an extend and dying at the same time. The max powerup popped out and I collected it with the extra ship. Useless, but funny.

Nice progress dude. This game is pretty generous with the extends, it's quite attainable to get the 3, 7 and 11 million extends before the last boss. Each one should hopefully buy you a bit of extra progress with the full bomb stock as well.

I've cleared this game before but keep fudging it on the last boss these days. My plan is to clear it before the end of the month; I don't think I have what it takes to make the second loop though.

I haven't played a ton of progear, but I feel OK with this score for now.

Nice score, I'm terrible at this game and the farthest I've made it so far this month is towards the end of the stage 3 boss.

Hoping to at least get the first extend and post a score, but horizontal shmups are particularly tough for me.

andsuchisdeath - 1,815,800 - stage 2-6 - romz

Spoiler:
JK old score ;)

I'd like to play this month but it's not gonna happen. Unfinished business will remain that way for now.
Good luck to the participants.

Anyway, here is my entry (played on an AES with a standard old-school stick, no auto-fire).

Spoiler:
First session:

AD-01.jpg

Second was way better:

AD-02.jpg

But third time's a charm:

AD-03.jpg

AD-04.jpg

My personal best, still no 1cc though. I entered the battle against the final boss with three extends, his rotating huge lasers took everyone of them in a second.

OLI - 935,250 - Stage 7 - AES

Edit: I played rank controlled, which means to omit frequent powering up. Primary weapon was at grade 7, Homing Missiles at grade 1 -- nothing else. Whenever it was possible, I let those power-ups fly out of the screen. I also did not take all B's within one level, in order to avoid the Perfect Bonus extra at the end of a stage, which powers up every weapon. It worked, but stage 6 was still hell.

Haven't played Progear in quite some time. Score is underwhelmingly average. Hopefully I'll have time to improve before the end of the month.
