The poll for this month resulted in a 3-way tie between Deathsmiles, Dogyuun, and Viewpoint so we will do all of them.

BerryTogart - 18,105,776 - CH1-1 - Rosa - Steam

Can some shmup expert jump in on a recommendation for the version? (or is Skokage that person already)

I'll play Deathsmiles anyways, but to me:
- Arcade is just offering worse graphics (it's steam already, I don't upscale that) and worse slowdown (yes, that helps with points)
- Playing "Arcade" and not V1.1 means the main source of points in my run is just getting up to a 1000, activating super and milking the stones on the volcano stage for points. I had the impression that is "fixed" in 1.1?

Also: What's the "correct" way to report the stage for the scoreboard. You can pick any path so for me CH1-1 was Stage 5

For comparison I played a round of V1.1 to see how far I can get with 1CC and lvl 1 on each stage and came up at 11,513,678 in the Final Castle stage (skipping the gorge). Such a great theme, such awesome sprites. (Love the sheep with the tridents)

That’s a great question, the previous time it was played I don’t see this topic discussed so just assumed Arcade version was the version used. I’m fine if v1.1 is the better version to use with scoring exploits are fixed?

Reading a bit on https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=33625 it looks like we could either do v1.1 original or Arcade MBL, or if there is interest I could track separate leader boards for each version. With MBL there is an extra stage and character too.

For tracking format let's do [Hi-Score format: Player - Score - Stage (Chapter) - Character - Platform]

Honestly I lack the knowledge to give a recommendation, that just were the observations from my playthrough.

I found this post on Steam which at least matches my own observations:

Here's the major differences of the each modes:

*Normal: Vanilla. It's hard to charge items to 1000 and be "power up" mode, but once you reached and kill enough enemies then you can get lots of score. Also, even you got hit it doesn't affect overall score so much.

*Arcade: Valnilla's low-resolution version. Actually this is vanilla (the frist launch in arcades), but basically you don't need to choose this mode.

*Ver 1.1: Very arranged game system of Normal. It's easy to reach 1000 items, but enemies' attack are much harder. In this mode, you can control your familiar by right analogue stick (It's important because your familiar can be a barrier against emeny's suiside attack, which is star-shaped bullet).

*MBL (I recommend): Another arranged version of Normal. It adds one new playable character, one new optional stage, relatively easy to reach 1000 items and "power up", but the duration of power up is shortened. Also, if you got hit by enemy, the overall score decreases so much so you need to play very careful.

*MBL Arcade: Low-resolution version of MBL.

*MBL 1.1: 1.1 rules with MBL new character and new stage.

@Kid Panda can you help us out here with picking a version?

Finally starting to get a feel for the scoring system, but no luck timing an instant recharge in the Graveyard or Volcano stages yet.

Here’s some warm-up scores for Dogyuun and Deathsmiles. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how the high-scoring tricks work in Deathsmiles.

ShootTheCore - 610,160 - 3-9 - PCB

ShootTheCore - 22,181,820 - 5-1 - Sakura - MBL Arcade PCB
