When I boot up the 360 disc the boot screen says 2003/01/01 Master Ver.

I'm guessing the 2003 bootleg cartridge is the IGS version, and the 2012/2014 arranges are Trap's mods.

Keep in mind some of those MAME roms are different regions too. Stick to the JPN Master Ver. 2003/01/01. Also I don't remember which one is the parent rom, usually that's the world version.

I'll see how this month plays out, but man I just can't get into this game. I love the DDP series to death, but Ketsui is "off" somehow to me. It is hard as balls, but I'm ok with that. Some DDPs are hard as balls too.

Right on. You're already pretty close to the first extend, you should try and shoot for that.
Also if you destroy all turrets on the midboss on ST3 and kill it without using any bombs, there's a 1UP there too.
If you lose a life trying you can still collect the 1UP, so if you're low on bombs it can be worth the sacrifice.

I'm going to have to practice ST4 a lot, that stage is a killer and the second half is a roadblock for me atm.

Np, nice improvements! I know which two patterns you're talking about... those are always a pain.

There's another hidden 1UP on stage 5 too, so you can get a total bonus of 4 extra lives (two hidden 1UPs + two extends) in the first loop.

4 extra lives would really help clearing the first loop. Currently I can just barely get anywhere in stg 4 though, so long ways to go.
