Five years ago I got Forza Horizon 5 preloaded and played early access. (Holy crap, five years ago already?) This time I wasted most of today installing FH6 instead of playing. News flash: Installing a large game on a console with fiber internet is still a hassle.

The actual install took about 2 hours, maybe a little less. Combination of disc and internet. I could pay more for faster speeds from my provider, but I feel that $60-70/month is enough. I ended up getting stuck doing various things and got a late start picking up the game at Best Buy and installing it. Was 2:30 in the afternoon by the time I was ready to play, with a hard stop at 4:30. Wish I'd just preloaded and played early like last time.

Nope. In the photo, the disc install is nearly done, with almost 90 minutes left from network.
Yeah, I doubt there's a playable game on this disc. This one even says "Requires content download" on the cover. The point? I still own this game license -- I can resell. If you buy digital you own nothing.

Theoretically yes.
Until they decide to arbitrarily end the license and won't let you download the files you need to play it.

That's not a bad point; it's true. I mean, you're right, you don't have to buy any modern games at all in that case. But if you do buy, your options are disc or download. I know I can always sell the disc in the case.

I'm finally getting to play Marvel Cosmic Invasion because I waited until the physical release.
I've had it two weeks and there is already dlc.

Yeah good point. For me not having cubic feet of games is i guess worth the tradeoff of not being able to sell my digital copies.

The point on Xbox is to grab the physical discs on sale for $10-20 in a few months long before the digital gets any discounts. Works pretty well!

I was hoping for more changes, but it's really similar to the last 3 Horizon's. So if you like those, you'll be happy with it. (They're fantastic if you like a full-featured yet approachable racing game with tons of style and fun activities.)
