I've been checking in out this every so often over the last few weeks and I've come to the scientific conclusion that this is bullshit. I know you see these kinds of dumb things on gamefaqs, but I don't think they are ever on this sort of scale.

Why am I even posting such meaningless garbage? Because Gordon Freeman is in the top 4. GORDON FREEMAN! He beat Snake! Come on now.. Gordon Freeman?

Truth be told: Duke Nukem would be trouncing this bastard. I don't care how many drones are on the Freeman voting band wagon, no PC gamer betrays their loyalty to the Duke when the time comes.

What is all this hoopla about "mainstream gaming sites"? Is there a site even somewhat similar to Gamespot that is NOT "mainstream"? And since when was it hip to be anti "mainstream" when it came to anything related to video games any ways? This is news to me.

I pull pretty much everything I need from forums, but I have no hatred towards people whom frequent these sorts of sites. "Mainstream" or not, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't read any of their "articles" that aren't related to news, reviews, or previews.

I have no idea how advertisement deals on websites work, but I assume increased web traffic means Gamespot can ask for more $$$ from it's advertisers if they want to advertise on the site?

That may be true for this poll, but having browsed the user comments on that site plenty of times, I've gotta say that they're not that far above 4chan in the idiot chain. I could be wrong, but that's what I've observed these past few years.

As much as Duke Nukem is way better than Gordon Freeman, Duke has been out of the spotlight for too long. Sadly, a lot of gamers do not even know who he is. Or, do they...

For me I find them useful in determining if I should pick up a game or not.

I don't really care about the quality of the journalism, rather I think of it more like a consumer reports type deal.

They usually talk about different aspects of the game enough so that i'll know if i'll enjoy it or not. There numerical score is useful, and agree a lot of the games they score as 6 or below are trash, but I think the written review is more important than the numerical score.

Plus it helps that they usually have reviews the day the game comes out and I don't think they take money to raise scores (RE: Kane and Lynch debacle.)

Of course, NG.com is usually my best bet on seeing if i'll like something too. Gotta have multiple sources of info these days.

I think Gamespot's reviews are terrible for the most part.

So many scores over the years that I disagree with that I just stopped caring about the existence of the site. I put more stock in the user scores than I do the website's scores.
