I'm sure we've got a lot of folks here who love Hong Kong action films, but are there any of you who'd like to talk about the ones that don't get much airplay? Like, we all know about Hard Boiled and The Killer, but lemme hear what the rest of you have to say.

For me, it's got to be Ringo Lams FULL CONTACT with Chow Yun Fat, followed by John Woo's BULLET IN THE HEAD. Both criminally underrated IMHO.

I love me some Hard Boiled. Not really underrated, but still excellent.

Yeah, this ^...

I had Bullet In The Head talked up big before I saw it. Can't say it lived up to what I was told. Which I'd found sad at the time as I love Woo stuff.

I suppose Jackie Chan stuff is technically "HK action films". Stuff of his I love that's usually not heard of by most would be Who Am I?, First Strike, Thunderbolt, & Mr. Nice Guy. Pretty much errythang else of his I've greatly enjoyed is more commonly known.

Yes, Madam!

I also love Michelle Yeoh in Wing Chun.

If the tape box says, Tai Seng Video Marketing-get the damn popcorn.

Also...out of Yuen Biao, Sammo Hung, and Jackie Chan...Yuen is my favorite.

Righting Wrongs (both cuts are crucial viewing) is a masterpiece.

Yes yes yes. If it says Tai seng, it's gold.

Wing Chun is DEFINITELY on my list too. One of Yuen Woo Ping's best films and is criminally underrated, even by today's standards.

There's a Yuen Biao film that I saw a few years ago called "On the Run" which I thought was fantastic. Yuen Biao is the lead but the female character is the one kicking lots of ass and I think it deserves a watch. More crime than kung fu, it's very underrated.

Only movies I've ever watched from hong kong are Jackie Chan/Bruce Lee movies and Men Behind the Sun. I need to take note of the movies mentioned here.

HDRchampion, if you ever see this.

Thank you very much for reminding me of "Kickboxer's Tears".

Maybe the movie is underrated, maybe it isn't considered good, but I love it.

no problem...

Im actually a huge hong kong movie nut back in the day...All the movies mention so far are actually popular films, so cant say they are underrated. Except for On the Run by Yuen Biao. Full Contact, City on Fire, Wing Chun, or any Jackie Chan movie.

Movies like Operation Scorpio, Tiger on Beat, Pom Pom Hot Hot, Pantyhose Hero, Martial Club, Ninja in the Dragons Den, Legend of a Fighter, Mismatched Couples, Thundering Mantis, Somebody Up There Likes Me, Beyond Hypothermia, Spooky Encounters etc... are what you call Metal Jesus Hidden Gems.

I have a Yukari Oshima full set. She’s dreamy.

Sorry, no luck locally w/ Saturn Marvel Super Dooper.

Some of these title names are so cool.

I'll look into all of these. Thanks.

Check out Tiger Cage 1 and 2 for some Donnie Yen goodness.

Almost forgot... everyone should watch Robotrix and Riki-Oh as well.

Full Contact is definitely one of the best.

I watched Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain last night, it does NOT hold up.

In a thread full of lmbo titles, this one made me LMBO.

Well they got the title Somebody Up There Likes Me from Paul Newman's boxing film

All damn solid movies.

Yeah you cant go wrong with Sammo.

Warriors Two(dir), Enter the Fat Dragon, Magnificent Butcher, Odd Couple, Encounters of Spooky Kind a.k.a. Spooky Encounters, The Victim(dir), Millionaire Express, Eastern Condors, Paper Marriage, Pedicab Driver, Pantyhose Hero, Skinny Tiger Fatty Dragon...Then of course the ones w/ Jackie in them. I think the last movie i watch of him was The Bodyguard, he was still able to kick butt. Could have been better but still decent.

Painted Faces.

It’s nobody’s fault; however, this thread has gone from ‘under rated’ to ‘shit I like’ lol.

They aren’t mutually exclusive! If there is a flick or flicks you love and don’t think enough beer bellied share croppers have seen them, chime in!

I’ve said it a bunch in other threads, but it is worth repeating:
Benny The Jet Urquidez is Jackie Chan’s best opponent. Those two fights=. 1) Wheels on Meals
2) Dragon’s Forever

*never* get old.

And who up in the place likes some Moon Lee?

Heroic Trio and Executioners are dope also. So much Tai Seng GOODNESS.

Isn't that how it always goes?

Hey joe8, what is the "best movie"?

How can I feel the "best emotions"?
