So...got Outrun 2 SP SDX up and running on the TekknoParrot emulator on my racing sim rig (also can play all model 2 and 3 racers).

Holy hell, this is fucking awesome! Still dialing in the force feedback and some other settings, but overall it's quite rad.

Got me thinking, anyone score attack these games these days? All Sega Racers really, but Outrun 1 and 2 especially. The OR games are a certain kind of special that I think scratch a similar itch as a shmup.

100% correct, sir. Definitely gets people hooked with that "don't blink" level of focus like a shmup. There are similar racers out there, but Outrun is truly special. Easily one of the best games of all time.

Not even trolln, I'd totes do some shady shit to get an OG Outrun Deluxe cab lol

What a coincidence, I've undusted Game Works Vol. 1 on DC and been playing OutRun for two days now.

It's an old love for me, one of the best arcade racers ever. Yu's superscaler games are among my all-time favs.

This has been in the works for a while d Im not sure where its at now as they had different builds, but this is legit fun, one of the builds you could use the motorcycle from Hang On

Maybe old news, but the enhanced Cannonball version Outrun was also nice.

Agreed. Although, I can't get Cannonball to run with my set up. Runs fine on the PC of course, but can't get it to play nice with my Fanatec equipment. :(

OR1 is incredible. I've got a big soft spot for super-scalier games.

Super-scaler games are awesome!

As are the OG Out Run games in general.

I can never wrap my head around why Sega hasn't done more with these games. There is no port of Out Runners on decent hardware, and the best port of Turbo Out Run is still on the 3DS.

Sega is sitting on some of the best arcade games of the 80s and 90s and does nothing with them, yet Capcom, Konami, Namco, Taito etc. are all more than happy to have their back catalogs trawled through. Weird.

Yea all they do is shove em into the Yakuza games. I'm glad it's something but idk why they haven't done a collection release of em. Baffling tbh

This is no Outrun, but fun if you want a modern scaler

Again keep your expectations in check

I've kept Outrun 2SP on Chihiro in my Crazy Taxi upright most of the time over the past few years.
If we had a high score board for it here, I'd happily participate!

It's probably my all-time favorite arcade racer! (though I still can't beat the hardest couple routes on default settings.)

10+ years ago, once a week I used to work near a shopping mall that had a little arcade in it. One of the games it had was Outrunners. At least once or twice a month, I'd go there during my lunch break and play through it. Of course the song selection had to be Last Wave, what else could it be for me? It's got my favorite level in any Outrun, which is the China stage where you're riding up Tian'anmen Square, and there are no other cars, only people wearing Mao suits riding bicycles, and if you hit them they beep their bike horn.

Outrunners is such an outstanding sequel, and it's a shame that most people's experience with it is the atrocious Genesis port. Why it wasn't given a Saturn release alongside Outrun is beside me.

For Outrun 2, I was fortunate enough to find an arcade in Beijing that had the deluxe cabin, where the cab moves up and down, about 10 years ago. I only ever played it on Heart Attack Mode. You bet your sweet cherry ass I felt like a stud drifting and when crowds of people formed to watch me beat it. When covid started in January 2020, the arcade closed and I haven't gone back since.

I have always wanted to slap together a dedicated Outrun2 SP racing setup. I think we talked about this before because I mentioned the Outrun2 SP Feel the Road mod.

I'm curious if that's still the best mod, or what mod you're using?

Cause one day I am going to do this.

Here is the version I was talking about: https://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=147131.0

Did anyone here get to play Sega Ass Simulator 1995 back in the day? I’ve never got the chance…

Where does that parachute come from and go back to?

Yeah it looks like a pseudo Outrunners sequel but it came out so late (95) that it was probably ignored for 3D titles like Ridge Racer, Daytona USA and Sega Rally by that point.

Looks quite difficult to play - the road is tiny and the speed is fast. I’d love to give it a go.
