Try it out for yourselves. This demo contains an entire zone with three acts. The graphics are much better with a lot more detail, physics are identical to the Genesis/Megadrive games and the remix music from Sonic 2 is great.

The sad thing is that this demo was developed by just two people. Two guys who use their free time to develop this demo and managed to outdo Sega.

Wait a minute.... that's the exact same stage as Sonic 2's first stage. What makes this "better" exactly? All they did was give the graphics the high-res treatment.

I have not yet played Sonic 4 but the assertion that this is a fan "made" game is pushing it. All they did was cut and paste the labor of other programmers and artists.

What exactly did they cut and paste other than level design? Its not like they went into Sonic 4 and took their assets to use on this project.

Gameplay bok. He mentioned the physics in the game matches the genesis games (which Sonic 4 doesnt). The animation is also a HELL of a lot better than Sonic 4.

Exactly. It's quite clear that the sonic fans in this thread just want more of the same. Sonic fans have ruined sonic for years and Sega looks like it's finally doing the right thing with "colors".

No matter which way you look at it, someone will always have something to whinge about. Some people will lose respect the moment it enters the 3rd dimension, others will complain that it's nothing like the old games and some will even whinge about his running animation not being aesthetically pleasing.

Yeah, because here people NEVER complained when snk changed iori's face in kof or changed gameplay in sequels of fighting games...

Regardless the level design, the fan game got physics right. Or at least a LOT better than sonic 4.
It's not a matter of being original or evolving. Sonic 4 feels broken. If this was a new mario game people would say the same thing

Sonic 2 is the worst of the original 16bit games, IMO. Was never as fond of it as some were.

And for those hating on the original Sonic series, you simply have no idea how amazing that gameplay is, even today. Yes, it's simple, maybe even shallow, but I don't think I've ever played another game like the original Sonic. Sonic 2, 3 & K were fine, and moved the series forward as much as you could with a one button concept, but the original Sonic was a masterpiece on all levels (including a marketing one).

Downloading it right now... Looks pretty good from that video and screenshots. Looks like the Rapidshare link is down (claiming illegal content), but the MegaUpload one is still working. Besides, not much SEGA can do. Once it is uploaded to the net, it's there forever. Might as well embrace it and contract these guys out to make the next Live/PSN title Seem to be able to do a lot better job than SEGA, overall. Two guys, and Unity. It's kind of like the rebirth of the garage-era all over again.

Played the demo. I agree with Rade that the graphics style is a little over complicated and busy for a game that moves so fast. The night level is also a bit dark. I love a lot of the little things they put in.

The physics in this are nearly the same as Sonic 2, however it feels like you dont just as high and there is only one jump button in the demo. You don't really bounce off enemies as much as you did in 2.

No boss fight either which was kind of disappointing.

Animation is great on Sonic.

To me, the joy of sonic was never about physics or grafx. It was all about Level Design.

I don't necessary think borrowing level design from Sonic 2 to be a bad thing. This a demo not a full ledge game. It's not like they had the source code for Sonic 2 and just made everything prettier.

This fan made game got the physics right. Manage to add more graphical detail than Sega for Sonic 4. In all, very impressive for a fan creation. I wouldn't take away anything from these guys
