Asuka 120% Burning Fest Limited - this looks completely skeevy just from the box art, but just on virtue of NOT being a yellow label game shows it's honestly not that bad. I mean, compared to Capcom's fan service with Sakura and Morrigan etc. this game is really nothing outrageous.

It's a 2D fighter with an all-girl high school roster (FUCK I just said it's not skeevy), but it's honestly a lot of fun. It's got a dial-a-combo system that's simple and addictive. I just sped through a longplay to make sure my memory was right, and yeah, it still looks fun. One thing I remembered watching the longplay was the satisfying sound effects, the crunch when you hit someone is just right.

The staff that made this game also did Panzer Bandit on PS1, which makes a lot of sense to how the game plays - in some ways, it really feels like the system for a beat 'em up was intended here and just put in the fighter genre.

Whenever I hear Asuka I think of Advanced Variable Geo or vice versa since they are both girl fighters.

As far as 2D fighters how about Sonic Council that doesn’t get mentioned much either

Advanced Variable Geo was a yellow label release. It was developed by the same people who did Steam Hearts, which I remember wanting to buy from terry about twenty years ago but never did. The Saturn release had some hentai images which warranted the yellow label, which were taken out of the PS1 version. Looking up reviews of it now, everyone does compare it to Asuka unfavorably, so I guess I didn't miss out on much.

Oh, found the old terry thread selling Steam Hearts, that was one Saturn game I really did want but in the end each time I thought about getting it I thought, "dude do you really want to buy a hentai game": https://neo-geo.com/forums/index.php?threads/fs-xbox-ps2-1-dc-snes-sat-us-jp.105257/
