Based on my research (I was planning on buying a VIPER PHASE1 board at one point, but had my doubts as I've heard that the games sometimes have a hard time syncing on a normal TV), it appears that your system and rom board regions MUST MATCH in order for them to function.

I could be wrong or there could be a workaround, but this is what I understood.

Ahhh.... Interesting.

Well, I suppose I had better wait to see what region the SPI board is when it arrives or I could be spending money for nothing.

Well, your information about synch difficulties was spot on. My SPI board won't output a strong enough (I'm assuming) signal for my ViewSonic VB50HRTV to grab onto. It will display, in b&w, usually with some glitching, and the box displays the input and resolution as if it isn't receiving a signal. Too bad; I got this lovely 17" LCD with pivot primarily so I could play SPI games. :(

It will actually flash color for a brief moment when I switch inputs, but then goes back to glitching b&w. :(

I haven't tried it on my 43" DLP set, but what's the point; even if it works it won't be oriented correctly. *sigh*

GOOD NEWS! Using a Hauppauge WinTV-dbx card and DScaler I am able to get a proper full color picture with Viper Phase 1! :)

I am still looking for the Raiden Fighters 1 & 2 carts, for what I believe is the Japanese version. I can't figure out 100% what region my SPI board is from, but I >think< it's from Japan.

Oh, I would also like a copy of Viper Phase 1 NEW VERSION. :)
