R3sid3nt 3vil 3: R3mak3 –– I finished this over the weekend. It's obviously a joke compared to 2, but it's still very enjoyable IMO. I'm still hoping for a RE1make. I don't think I'm going to play 4; the GC version was fine. Did it really need a REm4ke? I figure the graphics obviously aren't as dramatic of an upgrade for 4 as they are for 2 and 3. And the biggest benefit of the remakes is avoiding the tank controls, which 4 had already moved away from.
Not as good as 2re, but i also think the hospital section in 3 remake is one of the best areas in the entire series. The entire area was so well designed and felt real and lived in, and the pacing for it was great.

Cosigned.

That Carlos hospital sequence was the most authentic and well executed part of R3make.

Uncharted- Wanted to play 2 and 3 again but decided to start with the original. It’s pretty rough. It looks okay and the voice acting is good but there are just a ton of problems that have really aged it.

It’s weird to go back and play games from this era. There’s so many little quality of life improvements that have become standard that we’re so accustomed to. It really becomes apparent just how many things they were still ironing out during that generation. Even the difference in quality between Uncharted 1 and 2 is massive.

The aiming, camera and controls all suck to various degrees, the aiming being especially bad. There’s also shit that’s just wrong like taking damage during cuts scenes and collision detection.

The foundation is there though and Naughty Dog certainly built on it. Its also nice to play a game from this era that isn’t just browns and greys with space marines or generic military dudes. Thats about it though, there are so many basic problems that the game just isn’t very fun to revisit aside from the story and characters.

This is what keeps me from playing through King Field IV on the ps2 despite being such a fan of From Software. The fact i can’t set up the right analog stick to let me look around, and instead stuck using L1 and R1 buttons to look left and right is so painful i just can’t get use to it.

Caverns of Mars (Atari 2600) - New (re-)release of a classic game, it's some sort of vertical Scramble version that's fun to play and challenging. Got released by the new Atari, before that it was released on Atariage couple of years ago, iirc. Great game either way.

Berzerk and Frenzy (Atari 7800) - Another two new re-releases, there were no official versions of the games back in the day so 7800 coding wiz Bob Decrescenzo wrote them which got released on cart with both games, now Atari have re-released the two games as single releases, prolly coz it makes them a bit more money but I don't care because carts of the original Atariage release have become more expensive than the new versions. Well, what can I say, awesome games, playing Frenzy more than Berzerk atm, simple but fun.

Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest (Atari 7800) - Probably the highlight of the new releases and another great game by Bob Decrescenzo. It's a platformer with a nice style-mix of SMB, Wonderboy and a bit of Crystal Castles thrown in, plays very well, quite the challenge. Been playing it a ton ever since I got it, would have been a top-seller back in the day. It's also the pack-in game of the new Atari 7800+ console package that's on sale now.

Captain Barrel (NGCD) - What a cool game, just the stuff I need, it's colourful, fast, plays great and most importantly is fun. I just love these Taito-style single-screen games, recommended.

Prodeus (PS5) - It has been called "boomer shooter" I think. Awesome FPS game with current graphics and fx but oldschool gameplay, been playing it quite a bit and I'm liking it more and more. Definitely a challenging game. Doom meets Quake meets new style without the tedious free roaming thing. Nice change of pace.

Formula Retro Racing World Tour (PS5) - Now that's one for me, current-gen physics with last-last-last-gen visual style, sort of a modern Virtua Racing, excellent stuff. Focus on lap times/records, love the drifting with some cars.
Prodeus is indeed excellent, and I've heard it called that too

Lots of Path of Exile 2 and VR games.

Synth Riderz mostly, but I've been playing Tetris Effect too and that one is surprisingly cool.

Recently beat Biomenace (dos), Death Rally (dos) and am about 90 percent through Halloween Harry (dos). Will probably beat it the next time I load it up.

In re: RE4 Remake

As some of you may know, RE4 is one of my fav games ever, 60+ complete runs, turned everything upside down, know it inside out. For me, it not only is flawless in terms of gameplay mechanics but also the epitome of an atmospheric game that just drags you in and does not let you go until you've seen and done it all, and then you go and do it again with more weapons, more power, and you're gonna love it.

So, what about the remake? Great game, well worth playing, loads of control options to play as you like and of course big fat graphics with all the bells and whistles of modern gaming. It's more than just a straight graphics update, there are a number of nice surprises in the game as well even for RE4 veterans like me, some of which brought a grin to my face... basterrds! :D

It's just... well, they overdone it a little in terms of visual effects, everthing is way too glossy for my taste, even if the surroundings are supposed to be dry. There's constant shining and reflections, up to a point where things looks unreal and kinda samey to me. In the original, everything looked foreboding, evil, as if even the walls and plants in the woods would jump at your throat if you aren't on your toes. There are spots where this is still present in the remake but the lighting and gloss takes away a lot of it in my opinion.

There's more but I'm not gonna spoil it for you. My gripes are mostly aesthetical so please don't let them prevent you from giving the game a try, it plays awesome, is fun and the story and settings still work. They've done a good job with the remake, that's for sure.

Mostly been playing Astlibra Revision on the Switch. This game never ends and I just want it to be over. It's been fun but it's starting to overstay its welcome.

Might move on to Sea of Stars or Ys X: Nordics next. And probably Yakuza 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which finally makes sense to me in terms of how it plays.

Well, after purchasing a modded GameCube from roker I’ve been catching up on what I missed out on twenty something years ago. Forcing 480p through HDMI in widescreen looks great.

I went right through Baulders Gate Dark Alliance, fun Diablo clone. Ended up with a battle dwarf clad in full plate armor swinging a massive two handed sword.

Super Monkey Ball, great old Sega game and one of the five titles I played near the launch of the GC. Some good variety with the mini games, but man are some of the stages pissers!

F-Zero GX, I played the original, X and the two GBA releases but this one passed me by when it came out. The speed is amazing, like being on a roller coaster. I like that there’s a shop to unlock and tune the ships. Very fast paced, twitchy gameplay and I love it.

Mario Kart Double Dash, while I’ve played this a few times over at friends places I regarded this as the weakest link in the series. I still stand by that.

Yeah, unfortunately the shininess is a trait of the RE engine. The only one it doesn’t feel out of place in is 7 since it’s set in the swamps. Have you played any of the other new REs? Don’t discount 7 & 8 just because they are first person.

8 has a 3rd person option if you get the Gold edition.

Oh shit I didn’t know that, I thought that was just for the DLC.
I'm pretty certain it's for the whole game except for The Mercenaries (which is half baked ass in 8 anyway) but I don't know how good it will look to you. The game was clearly designed to be a first person experience so it may be jarring.

Monkey Target is arguably more fun than the main game.

Not exactly what I was hoping for. It’s more neon vomit and wild haircuts than gritty rainy noire. I had heard they fixed a lot of bugs over the first few years of the game but I’m still seeing people falling through the floor, flying across the sky, etc. I’m skipping the vast majority of the side quests and am just plowing through the main quest. I wish we got something closer to the original teaser.

Lies of P - New Game Plus almost done, such a great game. We'll likely platinum this one next week, then figure out what else to play.

Uncharted 2- Finished the first a while ago and am maybe around a quarter of the way into this. Massive upgrade all around, although I could do without the annoying stealth sections. The big action set pieces are still pretty impressive especially considering how old the game is. I could also do with a bit more exploring and puzzles though as this is really heavy on the gun fights.
