Any recommendations on edition/where to purchase the FotNS manga?
Are you averse to just reading them on free manga reader web sites? I did that a long time ago and read through everything in a couple days.

I know it's unfeasible at our age to recommend watching TV shows, but I still prefer the show over the manga. I feel the slow build up works in its favor and is overall more entertaining to watch animated. Even the anime only episodes are fun to watch.

And as big a fan as I am, to this day I still have never watched FOTNS 2. I've read enough to know everything and have watched clips of important parts, but never had a desire to watch all of it. It's the time skip sequel, like DBZ to Dragonball. I just felt the story was concluded perfectly after the Ken and Raoh fight.

And as a political guy, at the end of it you can ask yourself if Ken did the right thing. Lots of morality to ponder beyond the epic story.

Yeah, pretty much no interest to read digitally. My phone is too small for any lengthy reading and I’m not sitting at my computer desk to read a manga digitally.

Just read it digitally and stop being a fagit. You're denying yourself a bloody good time for no good reason.

I own all 18 released Viz volumes hardcover but they are more keepsakes and a way to tell the publisher 'I want deluxe versions of more classic manga, plz' than anything else.

What? I already have the first two volumes coming in the mail lmao.

I was asking for a recommendation of a good place to buy manga online. The only Manga I currently own is Impact Gen and I don’t buy many comics (though I admittedly should.)

Someone recommended Alibris for used books a few years back and that’s basically all I use these days. They probably have Manga online there but I was looking to buy FotNS new. Turns out one of Viz’s official distribution is through Amazon. Oh well.

I think not wanting to read manga digitally is pretty much made of aids soooo.....

LOL, I’m curious though, what device(s) are you reading digitally from?

The idea of sitting down at a PC or using a laptop to read any book for leisure seems anathema to the reasons I’d want read in the first place.

Laptop connected to a 32" monitor at home. And I'm mostly in the same boat as you but when there's a series out there with tons and tons of volumes already out, that can take a heavy toll on finances for something I'm not exactly sure I want to own.

Books are almost always digital on my phone or audio, but some stuff is still print, especially older stuff like Lovecraft, Howard, Leiber, Moorcock, etc. Things I grew up reading. But I don't trust new authors so they have to prove it to me before I'll commit. Joe Abercrombie is one of the few 'newer' guys I'll buy physical print of.

If it's history, political science or whatnot it's almost exclusively audio. If read by the author, all the more preferable. Good stuff for whiling away a work day.

Bro, you’re going to hate this, but I’m firmly in the “audiobooks aren’t reading” camp :keke:

That’s not to say I dislike audiobooks. I just think they’re more akin to radio and I do love radio.

Guess I’m just a Luddite.

I like to read in bed, in a space I have outdoors at my home, and I’m going to actually replace my current computer desk this year with an armchair, a bookcase, and a small table so I can have a dedicated reading nook.

Guess I’m one of those unplugged faggits these days.

I know a lot of people that don't consider audiobooks 'reading' and that's probably a fair criticism if one feels the need to elevate reading print media above listening to an audio transcription of it.

For me, it just depends on how I want to experience it. Either way, I'm experiencing the content but find that reading fiction requires an actual skill set of sorts, whereas nonfiction is like a lecture or a presentation and not as much of a story.

You work at a university right? Why cant you just intralibrary loan everything? Thats what we do. Weve got between 15 and 30 books from all across the US college system at any given time.

RE: listening to nonfiction as akin to a lecture - that’s a good point I hadn’t considered. Actually makes lot of sense to me now.

I suppose I could do that but at this stage in my life, I have gathered such a database of 'places to get things' from the comfort of my living room that it's never really an issue for me. The college DOES have some nifty affiliations and free streaming options for a ton of TV shows and movies but again, I don't really have a problem accessing the things I want to read or watch.

That’s because they aren’t. It doesn’t engage the brain the same way. Listening is passive, reading is active.

Not to mention 90% of the time people are listening to them they’re also doing something else.

Audiobooks are fine but they’re not a substitute for reading.

Very true. I can't tell you how many times I lost track of what was happening listening to fiction on audio. It's why I'm a lot more selective about it these days.

Other than the technical merits, Kite isn't anything special in my opinion. Great animation and character designs, decent action but you've probably seen a hundred shows just like it by this point. Wholly a product of the 2000s art direction aesthetic.

But if you really need to see cartoon characters getting raped, you could always watch the uncut version. It's full contact, uncensored SA of underage girls. So fair warning.

Just watched the first two episodes of this. It's a technical marvel, great production values, wonderful OST, a dark story with some real bite and an instantly intriguing protagonist. It has some tropey shit in it, such as a near insufferable moe companion (sometimes I hate what light novels have done to this medium), crazy side characters and a corrupt church (yawn) but the justification for all of this psychotic behavior is rooted in substantive lore and not merely working backwards from marketability. The characters are 'off' for a pretty good and interesting reason that makes you want to know more about why they're in the circumstances they find themselves in. IT's not as deconstructive or subversive as it thinks it is, but it's a very solid show so far. It will not dethrone Frieren as the best show of the 21st century, but it's got a chance to be a top 20 IMO.

Oh, if you want to watch the series, that's an entirely different thing. I never watched it but I am sure it is a less 'problematic' anime than the 1998 OVA. I think the 'spicy' bits were removed, but I can't say for sure.

I do them on my commute to work. Sure I’m driving as well but they’re a great change of pace from the radio
