I’m a mad Dylan fan. Been trying to collect the mobile fidelity series before they are no longer available, already getting hard to find some of them. These records sound fantastic!

Last one I picked up in person was the Windjammers soundtrack on pink/white vinyl. I got a phat stack of Eurobeat vinyl from a friend more recently but he shipped them to me.

I just got the Vib Ribbon soundtrack in the mail. Haven’t bought too many records lately.

Lots of 90s stuff as usual. Got some more Beatnik Termites on the way, too. Love those guys.

Did the original vinyl thread die?

I think this is the first year where I haven't picked up a new record. I got a bit exhausted over the years trying to get records that I wanted but only to be met with limited sales that sell out within seconds and other stupid bullshit.

But I digress, I think the real reason I haven't bought a record this year is because of Covid 19. I would usually go to a record store on my day off and just scan through a pile of records until I found something I like. I guess the idea of spending your leisure time scanning through records in the middle of a pandemic isn't a priority. Even when I got tired of buying records online ( going on discogs or buying new on other sites), I never got tired of spending some free time at my local record stores.

Wishlist of records I'd love to find at a record store if I was motivated to look:

The Church - Starfish: thank you Donnie Darko for introducing me to Under the Milky Way. I never stopped listening to this song 20 years later.

Flight of the Conchords - I Told You I Was Freaky: really doubtful I would stumble upon this at most record stores. I'm wrapping up season 2 for the first time since it first debuted. The songs are better than I remember.

Weezer (Green Album): really digging Island in the Sun lately. I've been playing my copy of the blue album on the regs. I know the green album gets shit from die hard fans because they "sold out" or some shit but Rivers has always been good at making catchy songs that are deeper than your typical stuff on the radio. I never cared for Weezer after this album, though.

The Cure - Pornography: A Strange Day is on my rotation. I'm feeling sorta emo these days I suppose.

That's about all I could think of off the top of my head. There is nothing like walking into a record store with a certain record in mind only to walk out with something I didn't expect to find or even knew that I wanted. You can't replicate that feeling with online shopping.

I picked up the reissue of this a month ago. Still love it, yeah it’s a bit over dramatic but just a great sounding album. Love the album cover too, looks like it sounds.

I was dragged to an antique mall this weekend. The stacks and stacks of records that they cant even give away has me reconsidering ever buying more.

That's inevitable though. I mean what are you going to do with the entire collection of Poco and soundtracks from movies that flopped?

It does bring up a good point about space. I have slowed down drastically in the last few years and I've even managed to sell 30 -40 records out of my collection. For the most part, before I buy a new CD or record I ask myself, "Are you really going to play this on your day off or just use your subscription to Google to play music?"

Most of the times I would go with streaming. Just easier.

Unwanted records pile up just like annual sports games and shovelware.

You get the same mutant collectards in records that you do in Vidya games. Probably worse in records because a lot of crap stuff can be picked up cheaply. For me, I still use streaming pretty much every day but if it’s an album I really like and there is a good vinyl version I will buy the vinyl. Owning thousands of records is pointless these days, it’s become more about quality.
