Anybody here collect higher end watches? I caught the bug and am ready to take the dive to buying my first. I am torn between a Zenith vs. Panerai.

My 2 major picks are a Pan marina and a Zenith Mulitcity Traveler. The Zenith has a much more complicated movement as well as being made in house. I can also get a dicount on the zenith being it close to the price of the pam 164 (used).

The pam is a great looking watch but don't really see the value except the limited numbers that are made. I was always told to buy something worth the money. The Pam movement is pretty simple and easily bought for very cheap. I liked the Pam orginally cause it was cheaper

In my eyes the Zenith has just more going on and a great looking watch

The Zenith retails for a lot, however, and I know I will be killed if I decide to sell it in the future (likely at some point) due to the crap market value of these. I can justify the price of the watch though.. So I am a bit hesitant ordering either. There are so many other Zeniths that I love at lower prices too, though they are also plagued by shoddy market value. Perhaps it would be wiser to go pre-owned. Every time I walk into Torneau, I spend hours discussing these, and I have lusted at owning one for the longest time now.

I have caught interest in a nice U-Boat as well, though was told they were overpriced. Suggestions for any others that I am missing out on?

You are such a joke.

For what it is worth though, there is someone on the boards that sells expensive watches.

I have a fake Tag Heuer that I wear on those "formal" occasions where my G-Shock won't cut it.

Every time I take it to get a battery replacement, the watch guys say "You know this is fake, right?" :D

My past history with watches has been terrible. I keep accidentally scratching and generally destroying them (luckily nothing valuable) --so I stopped wearing them in college. :(

If I got back into them I would probably get either a huge watch or something like these.

I love Omega's. The seamaster was worn in Casino Royale by Craig I think..

Actually, I remember being impressed by this baby --but its ridiculously expensive and looks like you might injure yourself if you weren't careful:

I have a couple original TAGs, thinking about selling them though, hardly ever wear them anymore, mainly because they make me get a rash where they sit on my wrist.

Went through a small fad of collecting Jump Hour watches last year, got a nice collection together then decided they're a pain in the ass to have fixed if they decided to break, so I sold them lol

I don't have anything as expensive as a Panerai, but I do collect watches. They range from the inexpensive (quite a few G-Shock, Vostok, Buran, Poljot, Seiko, Citizen, etc.) to some mid-range (several Stowa, a Tag Heuer, Movado, Precista).

The Panerai's are nice. I think the model I really liked was the "Black Seal" panerai

I have 2 tags (a cheaper base model (my first real watch) and then the Tag Heuer Link Chronograph (also known as the Bourne Identity model)

2 Rolex - a Datejust as well as an older Submariner that is super beat up. My wife has a matching tag as well to mine listed above but the women's model.

Fun hobby, but too spendy now that I have 2 kids...

The watch geeks hang out here; http://www.timezone.com/

i have a handful, but nothing special.
it's an accessory to my outfit most of the time. My fancy ones are hard to read because the hands are so small are too shiny.

Nothing will be as great as my classic Casio calculator...

We sold a new carrera last week i believe but it was all stainless, also we had newer speedmasters as well. we buy estates so most of our watches are older models but new ones trickle in from time to time. you just have to keep an eye on the site. you never know what pops up/

A pretty cool new watch, it is a quartz movement though...

The watch has a stark, circular titanium face. There are no hands. There are no numbers. Around a groove in the centre a ball-bearing rotates to mark the minutes. Around the edge of the watch, another ball bearing rotates to tell the hours.

Very cool watch. I love the look, but you'd have to really focus in order to tell the time. But who needs watches to tell time nowadays? I guess they're just fashion accessories at this point.

While that ball bearing watch looks cool you'd have to be really careful with it. Dirt or other junk getting in the tracks would mess it up I'd imagine since everything is exposed. A good hard knock could also wreak havoc on it's workings.
