Americana for 'Sage

Resurrection Sunday tomorrow...some craft time tonight.

Most of you won't care but the homey sage will appreciate this.

Any plastic egg shell will work. Sugar, merengue powder and a small amount of water. Mix and compact into the mold. Plop out onto a baking sheet. You can air dry overnight, or you can bake at 300 degrees for 30 mins. Once hardened (they'll be like brick), carve out the center on both halves. Carve out a peep hole on one half only.

Decorate the inside of the piece w/o peephole, then use frosting (powder sugar base will harden fastest) to seel the 2 halves together, then decorate outside. While these are edible, they are not meant to be eaten. As decorations they will last as long as you can avoid knocking them around or getting them wet.

That's a family man right there. Look at your family doing crafts together. When I was a kid, I would've thought doing something like that with my family would be gay. You can use any "egg shaped" plastic really. We've used large and small. The small take a lot less sugar and hollowing out, but the detail on the inside is much finer. The large one is the sort of thing you find in a Target aisle, filled with a dinosaur dig, hatchimal, or any other random toy this time of year. This particular one was from an Easter Nerf kit thingy. Fill the mold with (sugar, merengue (or egg white), and a little water (about an 1oz of water per 16oz of sugar). Form it to the mold, plop it over, and bake. Then hollow it out - this is a little tedious, but it gets easier after the first. A drill is not a bad idea!



@LoneSage - yeah, my oldest son is 18 now. 1 year to go until he completes his RN. My youngest son is 16 and passed me in height. He's a little over 6'3" and still sprouting. Me, i'm just getting old. The pic below here is Christmas City of North Parade last November. The hair is graying and the upper body muscle is sinking into belly; full on dad-bod.
