I have seen these threads but Im starting a new one anyway.
Ok, so which is really better, XNeo or geting the system a S-Vid mod?
I have a PAL AES and a brand new PAL Sony TV with 3scarts and RGB and s-video
in.
What would you guys suggest? I guess I wanna hear you europeans out there
the most beacause of the diffrent tv systems we have compared to the states?
What do you think is the best for our european tvs?

Oh..and lets make a poll to!!!:D

Use the RGB enabled televisions we have here, you cant get anything better out of the Neo than RGB

mr. longhair is right - you have no business living over there and using S-video!! :D

Anyway, I've got both the XNEO-1 and a couple of modded systems - the modded S-vid connection is significantly better, IMO. The XNEO-1 seems to help out with color bleeding and saturation, but the mod is much sharper.

Don't even dare to bother with the s-video mod if you live in Europe and have a good TV with a scart socket that accepts RGB. Just use it and that's all. You might consider doing the "RGB mod" in your AES instead, also depending on what kind of AES you have. Or just get a MVS set-up and use its superior RGB :mr_t: .

The x-neo could be worth it if you plan on using the VGA output for some reason.

OOoh man Im as confused as ever... forgive my totall n00bness.
Im not sure I follow all this but should all I need then be one of
these babies? http://www.neostore.com/detail.asp?ProductID=502
And I will get the superior über picture equal to a XNeo or mod?

So RGB is better than S-video? I thought it was the other way around?!

No, that cable in the neostore is just a standar A/V one, you need a 21-pin scart/euroconnector. Yes, RGB is better than s-video.

Yes, RGB is the best you can get. Then comes S-Video, then composite. Check this for some basic info:

http://atarilabs.com/meat/2000/1201_videoprimer.shtml

American TVs support S-Video and composite but not RGB, that's why you hear about S-Video as being the best but this is obvious since most members of this site are Americans. European TVs on the other hand do support RGB so you should take advantage of that and disregard anything else. The problem with AES is that many systems, esp. those with a high serial number have a real bad RGB output but this can be solved with a mod:

Ok so I need a scart cable, well Im familiar with those, I´ve never seen
a scartcable that looks like http://www.trioda.ro/ro/catalog/conectica/007.gif this
in the neo geo end, and like http://www.trioda.ro/ro/catalog/conectica/005.jpg that on the other end?
But such cables exsist then? Or do I have to make my own custom cables like Big Shady is talking about? http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88950
Ok im constantly editing this last post cause im finding stuff out?!:D
Will one of these cables do the trick? http://www.clasohlson.se/images/products/S/hi/A/323238_Bw2.jpg
found this kit in a swedish store. Also I will check my serial nr to see if its
a good one to support RGB. If I have a bad serial nr I should RGB mod my AES
like MKL is talking about.

I'm not really sure if you can buy that cable yourself... You could try to look for it, or have it made at a suitable electornics store. Or of course build it yourself.
The first link you put is not what is in the neo end (I only see 5 pins and there should be 8), it should look like this:

http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/neoav.htm

The other end of the cable should just be the regular scart connector.

I suggest you to get this cable, and then try it. If you are satisfied with the result, just don't bother anymore. If you don't like it and your AES has a bad RGB output due to its serial, then consider doing the RGB mod.

I was just about to edit my post again cause im reading up on things here.
An 8 DIN connector in on end to the Neo and a scart in the other.
I have a friend that maybe can make a cusom one for me if I dont find at store that sells them.
Thanks alot for the info Amano and MKL.

If you aren't sure of the pinout for the Scart end, you can have a squiz here. I used this when I made a cable up for a friend.

The only changes to note to what's on that site is that Pin 4 on the NG end which has a ? is the 5v output and I would hook Pin 7 (which isn't listed) to Pin 20 on the Scart plug which is for the composite sync. You only really need to do this if you also do the RGB mod as this will provide the true sync signal to the TV and not have to extract it from the composite video signal.

Having both an X-neo "upgraded" Neo and a modded "Mega" Neo I would go for the X-neo, it's darker but the colors are rich and the bleeding has been eliminated 100%. The modded Neo has a bright and well detailed effect that kinda hurts my eye(My prob and not the mod).

THEY ARE BOTH VERY GOOD AND I WOULD SAY IT'S A MATTER OF TASTE.
