Going to Germany, Wolfsburg to be specific.
My girlfriends mecca. We're going with her dad's camper.
Leaving this saturday morning (june 10th)
We will leave Wolfsburg on monday or tuesday, heading south from there for a few days before driving back home.
Any suggestions what to do after Wolfsburg?

lol, I was born in Wolfsburg. But my father got a better job in Kamp-Lintfort (he had worked as an engineer for Volkswagen, then got an offer to lead a department at a different company), we relocated shortly after my first birthday, so I don't remember shit from back then.

Not really a part of the country I know well... how many days are you planning for your trip/how far south will you go? And which way will you head back? Or are you asking for ANY input?

Any input
If you're dead set on driving south (~185Km) and into artsy stuff, then maybe check out Documenta 14 in Kassel. It starts on the 10th of june and you should be able to spend a few nights right next to the river Fulda. Parking is free (Auedamm / Buga) and there's a public bath Auebad in case you want to take a shower. It's quite a nice area, actually.

There's a dedicated paking spot for campers (Wohnmobilstellplatz) nearby but the more recent reviews aren't that great.

Documenta
You have to pay an entrance fee for the indoor exhibitions (22€/day for all locations) but there's plenty of other stuff to see.

Google Pictures:
Karlsaue
Buga
Bergpark Wilhelmsh?e Take a tram. Parking sucks in that area.

Not sure where else I would go. Wasn't impressed, when I spent a few hours in Goettingen. Avoid Frankfurt am Main.

My wife is German, so we've been over there a couple times to visit family and such.

On your way south, if you veer to the west you can stop by Idstein. It's a small historic town near Wiesbaden that has a beautiful old town center, as well as the menacing Hexenturm (Witches Tower) where some witch executions supposedly took place. If you go to the city hall you can ask to be allowed inside the tower.

Nürnberg is also definitely worth a visit going south. The central town still has medieval fortifications and waterways, as well as a few cool video game stores. :D

Cool thread, have fun ratson.

I'd like to visit Germany (or at least the Sudetenland) one day. Castles are cool, here are some places I'd like to visit, maybe you would too:

ahh fuck it here's the wiki, there's a wiki for everything i guess: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_castles_in_Germany

I'm a sucker for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, looks like Germany has plenty:

Of interest to me is a 19th century industrial factory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Völklingen_Ironworks

I wonder how much a hostel goes for over there and how good public transport is even to the most remote of tourist attractions. Yup, out of the UK, France or Germany I'd choose to visit Germany.

We took place some pictures there, will post them when I get home. We are allready leaving idstein because there was only a camper parking. No camping place anymore.
But it's true idstein looks fucking amazing. I could live there instantly.
