I was wondering, what arcade boards should i get? I don't really want an MVS since i already have a neo geo, but what should i get instead? These are my choices:

Naomi

ST-V

CPS-2

If you think there should be something here that i haven't listed, please feel free to suggest it. Also, any information on where to buy Naomi boards very cheap will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Let's see....

Naomi - Too expensive right now. You have a dc right?

ST-V - Saturn. Not bad not great. There are only three games which I can think of must buys. Raidiant Silvergun, Die Hard Arcade & All Japan Pro wrestling feat virtua. Still all these titles are availible for the saturn... you have a saturn don't you?

cps-2 - A lot of these have been ported to the saturn. D&D collection. Marvel VS SF. X-men VS SF. X-men COTA. SFA,SFA2,SFZ, Cyberbots, pocket fighter, super puzzle fighter etc. The newer games are great... but you'll definetly pay for it.
Multi Pang (2000) $185
1944 (2000) $80
Puzzloop 2 (2000) $300

Why not buy the titles that didnt port well to the consoles or have no console ports at all.

Macross Plus
Dragon Ball Z VR VS
Speed Racer ... you'd need a steering whell petals etc dont buy this unless you have a cab for it.
Pilot Kids
Outfoxies ... now there is a kickass game
Surf Planet... requires special controller

Why not start with some great shooters?

Good luck on trying to find a Naomi board in the first place.

I recommend the CPS 2 system. A lot of great fighters plus they are easy to take on and off (A and B boards).

I would go with the CPS2 if I were you. But I would try to hunt down a cab that has Q-sound to play it on.

Remember most CPS-2 boards games have suicide batteries. It costs $75 for capcom to replace the battery.(Expensive fucking battery!).
ST-V are great if you don't have a saturn. Games (apart from Radient Silvergun) are cheap.
Theres always Sega model 2 if you have afew 100 bucks. You'll need a cabinet that can run medium resolutions though.

wait for the naomi 2 instead or buy the system 246(ps2 based) board.lol.

Both are VERY expensive. Although if you can afford to buy all of those aes carts... it dosen't really matter.

Capcom won't touch any cps-2 pcb that does not have a jamma sticker. You're best off replacing the battery yourself.

Yes cps-2 is very expensive. Anything dealing with pins and vids is expensive. I've been collecting for 1yr 5months and have already spent over 15k.

A naomi is totally pointless to get, the games are the same as the dreamcast versions (The DC versions accually have improvements in most cases).

Plus the Naomi requires a seperate power supply, I think it needs its own custom harness like Model 3 does, and some Naomi games are Medium Res, so you'd need a Med Res monitor. Not worth all the hassle. Get a jamma fingerboard and a dreamcast RGB cable and you can hook it to you arcade cabinet like I do.

As Lady Wolfgang Krauser pointed out, the CPS2 games all have suicide batteries. Don't buy ANY boards with the suicide feature, they're just not worth it. Replacing the battery is a tricky process, and if done wrong will kill the board. Capcom won't do anything to support them if they see the boards have been opened.

ST-V is OK, but not enough games came out for it. Its a pretty cool system though, and don't forget Shienryu, one of the best shooters ever made!!

I agree with others here, buy arcade PCBs by themselves and don't look for systems. The Neo Geo is the most successful arcade cartridge based system, the rest are not so hot. Dedicated PCBs have come WAY down in price, and are easy to find these days. I've picked up MANY great shooters for great prices, in the area of $50-$150 with a few a little higher. But of course, virtually all my shooters are verticals, and require a vertical cabinet . . .

Also a note on the STV, its the same boat as the naomi is, most of the STV games were rleeased on saturn, and well, are the same games. Since the STV is just a saturn, like naomi is just a DC.

However there are a few cool STV games that were not released on saturn, and STV is standard jamma, you could compare STV to MVS, it uses the cart system, and the carts are almost the same size as MVS ones.

I have owned a CPS2 unit many times, the easiest thing to do is Get an A board, and when you buy a game, play it foy 6 monthes, a year whatever, sell it off and get another one ect.

Since the CPS2 games do die, its better not to "Collect" them in the old fashioned sense, get them, play the hell out of them, and when your done sell them. Always keep your A board though (The A board doesnt suffer from suicide).

CPS3 is the same deal, the CPS3 board itself has no suicide in it, but it uses a CD, cart combo. The entire CPS3 game is loaded from CD into the boards ram, the security cart for the game must be in the board for the game to work. Since its a CD based system, you can easily copy the game, however it wont run without the security cart.

Inside the cart is a suicide battery just like CPS2, so once the cart dies, your whole board is useless, unless you can find another security cart (Which wont be easy to find).

Ive had a Warzard Cart die on me before and was screwed.

Just dont try to collect and keep CPS2 or 3 stuff and youll be fine. I dont know of any other boards that use suicide batterys, Taito F3, STV, MVS are all good systems to get.

All arcade boards are pricey, its the nature. F3 motherboards are around 200-250

You can't go wrong with a Taito F3 or G-Net system. F3 carts are relatively common for the most part. G-Net cards are a little harder to find.

Darius Gaiden on F3 is actually a bit better than the Saturn version IMO- I've noticed a tad of dithering on some of the larger enemies in the Saturn port, which the F3 version doesn't have.

Not having to worry about a damn suicide battery in these carts is a big plus as well.

The g-net system is still being used, so its up there. Expect to pay $400-$500 us for a game + mb. Besides Raycrisis (that Jackal recommended) I suggest Chaos Heat.

Be sure to check out:

One other thing. The naomi kits are dropping again. $648 for a full us kit.
