I could, sometime in the near future. I made one for the CPS2 fan as well but didn't publish it.

Would be very interested in the guide for fan replacement James. Would solve the problem of all those noisy A boards. :) And I gotta agree with you, CPS2 battery swaps are a cinch. I've been able to do several without any failure. Never touched a soldering iron before either. The solder looked like silver pachinko balls with my first couple, but they all worked none-the-less.

Haha! Mine look like small gnarly trees...but now that I've changed all of 'em, it'll be a few years til I have to do it again, so no practice! D'oh!
Just have to buy more CPSII boards, I guess...Just so I can practice, I mean...

The trick is to use a Weller solder sucker. This makes the job really easy. Starting with a clean contact after removing the old battery makes the swap much easier. Also, I buy the battery kits from Jammaboards.com which has nice instructions and the torx tool included for like $12. I've done a bunch of these and have never had a problem. As far as CPs3 that's a different story. tlh

You can buy batteries from all-battery.com for about 2.50, it's nice and necessary to have the T20 torx bit, but once you have one, you don't really need another.

http://www.all-battery.com/primarylithiumthionylchloridebattery12aa36v1200maher14250nonrechargeablewtabs.aspx

You can use the code "tenergydeals" at checkout and get free shipping if you buy $25 worth of batteries.

great link! Was planning on grabbing some batteries for various other projects as well as some for MVS replacements. They have some nice prices there, especially with that free shipping code :buttrock:

No doubt once you have one kit, you will only need to buy individual batteries in the future. tlh

I use the tenergy ones as well. Only problem with them is that the tab is about a hair too wide so you have to slightly drill the hole on the PCB by a hair.

I don't know if newer batches are thinner but that was my experience. Only reason why I dont use them now is that they dont ship via USPS anymore just fedex or UPS and now shipping is like $40 to Hawaii where before I could buy 20 batteries and only be charged $5 for Priority shipping.

It may be do-able by people here....but really some people are just scared of soldering anything. That or just to lazy and have money so they don't want to be bothered. Sounds like he was just trying to help those folks :)

Thats me right there... I am afraid of soldering.

I'd love to have the little e-z battery box to pop a new battery in when the time comes though.

How much do people charge for this service?

Thanks for the link Loegan I ended up ordering 20 batteries. So today I decided to replace the battery in my SFIII: 2nd Impact as the battery was down to 3.1V and I wasn't gonna chance it going lower. I did the replacement with the power on method. Recycled power and it still worked, put the security pcb back in the cart and powered it back on, still works. So we will see what happens after a day of it being unplugged...
