Dead or Alive 5: What skills should I look at improving next?

So I've managed to get good enough with Hitomi to get up to the second to last difficulty in Arcade (working on that one presently).

I'm focusing on Hitomi right now, so question: Should I keep trying to get the timing right to do counter throws, or learn other characters?

The skill you should improve the most is finding a better fighting game
Seriously as much as they say 5 doesn't rely on counters, it does. Learn that and go online and be prepared for the clusterfuck of counters you'll run into.
