Farewell SNK 1978- 2001

Farewell SNK 1978- 2001

It has recently occurred that SNK will finally have to close down its doors after 23 years of being in the videogame
business. Many were either shocked (hoped SNK would be able to restructure) or expected all along any way and
weren't that surprised. The era of the Neo-Geo is not done however. Is SNK gone? Yes. Is the final game (with the
exception of !Arcade! releases) Sengoku 3:English?Yes. However the SNK and Neo-Geo scene is far from over.
If you check out the reviews section you'll see more than 170 reviews, if you go on the internet you can find and
buy that game you still don't have, you can speak with great interest about SNK and the Neo-Geo with other people
from around the world that also have great interest in it.

Fact is the reason SNK stayed alive for so long was because
of its huge "cult" like hardcore legion of fans, that stayed with it throughout the years. I think Nintendo said it best
when they said "quality before quantity" back in the Nintendo 64 era. SNK have given more than enough quality
throughout the years and have always tried their best.

The Neo-Geo is one of the only systems in existence that has
existed in the videogame industry for 11 years. While today system's lives get shorter and shorter as people go to the
next "big" thing that can do the best graphics, the Neo-Geo gave us 11 years of fun and entertainment whether it be
on Home, MVS, or CD. Something along the lines of 276+ Neo-Geo Home games exist, and I'm sure no one has played them
all for huge extensive amounts of time. These games were all first or second party as well!

SNK gave us the Neo-Geo Pocket and Pocket
Color which gave those that owned it hours of fun, with quality games like CFC and MOTM. Did it beat the Game Boy?
No. Then again no one ever could not Sega, Atari, or Nec. I think SNK was trying to reach its hardcore crowd rather
then beat Nintendo. Who can beat an entire media blitz of Pokemon?

SNK may be officially gone but they were already basically gone
many months ago when many employees flocked to other companies when SNK had money troubles. Perhaps Capcom
bought all of SNK's remaining franchises which would be good. As If feel they are the only ones that could do justice
to SNK's franchises(many of SNK's ex-employees are there anyway). After seeing Capcom VS SNK 2, I know Capcom
could do SNK's franchises. Would I have liked new games from SNK themselves? Definiatley, as many people in this
forum that know me know, I would have loved for Samurai Showdown/ Spirits 5 to come out. However if its not possible
anymore through SNK, then so be it. Hopefully SNK's DNA will travel to the next systems as their franchises are bought out
(hopefully by Capcom). Farewell SNK, know all of your fans will miss you and thanks for the years of entertainment
wether it be with ports or on one of your consoles or handhelds. Hopefully we'll see your franchises in the future
programmed by some of your old employees over at Capcom.

The SNK/Neo- Era will live on.

farewell SNK. The best game company in the history of man must retire. We must let it rest, and remember it in all ways we can.

Long Live SNK.

Let's line up for a 21-gun salute to SNK. They will be missed.

If I was a multi-millionaire I would buy SNK U.S. and Japan and get it back running on its feet. But, I'm not.. Thanks for the decades of gameplay SNK, one of the only companies to really put a fight against Capcom's fighting genre. Maybe someone will bring SNK back under a new name? Only time will tell. <IMG SRC="smilies/crying.gif" border="0">

Yea, it is sad that the company had to close down. It's just to bad that I never had the chance to really appreciate them way back in the day until recently. I would buy their products anyday if I have the cash too.

Hmmm... not a bad idea. There are a few thousand people signed up on neo-geo.com. If we each put our money together we would have... errr... carry the one... damn! Only enough to buy out Tiger's "R-zone" department.

I remember seeing commercials for those R- Zone thingys. That thing you put over your eye and then play "virtual reality" games. That still exist?
