For Square fans...

As you already know, the Final Fantasy movie will be coming out this summer.

What are your thoughts/opinions about the movie?

Nothing like the games no true fantasy element.

I think it looks cool. I think it is kinda neat how they went all CG with no camera actors. It is an interesting new idea and I think I am going to go see it. Though I am not a big Square fan.

Man, what happened to the old fashioned FF Games. I like the futuristic versions (i.e. FF7, 8, and 9), but it would of been better if they stuck to the original Final Fantasy instead. I was a little disappointed when I saw the previews <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

I dunno about this one. Haven't seen many previews, but I will probably go see it just to see how it turns out. I wish it were based on the older FFs (FF1-6) <IMG SRC="smilies/crying.gif" border="0">

Tomb Raider I feel about the same. Never liked the game to begin with, but the whole Indiana Jones motif of the movie means it can't be too bad.

Then again, video game movies never turned out very good. Remember Street Fighter, Super Mario, and (ACK!) Double Dragon !?

I'll just watch it because it has the Final Fantasy name slapped to it. But I really doubt that I'll be pleased.

i think ill see it, even if i think it isnt really a final fantasy title, just using it to sell tickets i think...its worth checking out maybe....

btw, square really doesnt do their cg's for games...for example, the movies in final fantasy 8 and were contracted out i believe, there was an article at ign about that...they do this so can mainly focus on games...so some of those really great and beautiful square cg scenes....arent really square....

It is my prediction that this movie will be terrible. Just a hunch, but I'm getting the same vibe about this movie that I did about Titan A.E - YES, I think it will be THAT bad.

This has nothing to do with Square and everything to do with Final Fantasy. You cannot compress a typical FF story )that takes anywhere from 20 - to 40 hours) into an hour and a half and expect it to be any good. It cannot be done. Final Fantasy needs a full anime/CG TV series adaptation to do it any justice.

Speaking of FF, who cares if the setting is more futuristic-oriented or fantasy-oriented? As long as the game is good, that's all that matters. Of course, the definition of "good" differs from person to person, but anyone who blames all the faults on *just* the scenario needs to get his/her head examined.

This is not true. Square does all of their own CG. It's just that Square have special departments outside their Japan HQ to handle it (I think the main one is in Honolulu, Hawaii). It's still all Square doing it, not some outside party.
