In a word, yes. Hell, I'm 20 and burnt out now. At least work gives you something to do. I'd omit the kids though, there's no way I could afford them.

How about work and play simultaneously instead of spending half of your life span working and let the other half withered away. If you do not want your kids to repeat what you have been doing, do not have kids. By the way, if you work hard for the entire year, bear in mind that five months out of the twelve you are actually working hard to pay the IRS off.

I hate to be the naysayer, but you just hit the nail on the head. MVSHolic, this is ot a midlife crisis, this is an awakening. People as a society are very fearful of death. Death means eveything you worked for on earth will mean jack. That is why 99 percent of people you talk will talk to about their own impending demise will tell you to "shut up". It is discomforting to think that we are not special somehow, and that we will spend an eternity here with all our family, kids, grandkids, etc. To quote Edward Norton: "On a long enough timeline, everyones survival rate drops to zero" and that is the absolute truth. I do not care what religion you are, if you believe in heaven, hell, reincarnation, or whatever, the only thing you are absolutley guarenteed is your life RIGHT NOW. You have absolutley no guarentee you will even wake up tomorrow. Yes, you will go to classes you to hate, to go to a college you dislike, to get a job that saps your life away just so you can have the basics of survival. But what you do when you are on yor own time is what makes life livable.

Do I sound morbid? Consider this: I have Cystic Fibrosis. My lungs hold just under two liters of air. When I;m doing whatever around the house, I have to wear oxygen so my heart doesn't harden. I will not be alive in ten years. My mother does not want to accept that her 18/19 in two weeks son will not live to thirty, not get maried, not have any children of my own, and therefore no grandkids for her. But I am comfortable with the fact that I am going to die. It does not make me cry, make me sad, or depressd. I have seen 6 other cystic fibrosis patients whom I knew, who were my friends, die. Most died when they were only 12-14. So I consider myself lucy to have the time I have.
I could spend 3 out of the 12 hours in my day (my lung functions require alot of sleep)excercising, another hour doing medications, and another two with normal day-to-day normal people stuff. That's six hours out of my day to make sure I live to be 27. That does not factor in any job I may have, so it would take my entire day and leave me with no time for me. You know those guys you see on TV who do excercises everyday, eat noting but veggies, go to bed early. Do you think that they are happy? Instead of their cancer killing them in 2 years, it will be three, but 3 years of unpleasantness. Instead, I spend my days figuring out what I'm going to do with the time I have left, wether it be playing neo, watching DVD's, going out with friends, or whatever, and I am talking advantage of the here and now.

Thats not necessarily true as the only 2 things in life that you have to do really is die nothing more nothing less. The other things are artifical constructs added on by society.

What you said is true though you have to take into consideration that every life is unique and diffrent in how it is lived and experienced.

Yep thats it,and we have to pay the taxmen otherwise there would be no government and life would be 10x worse,the way things are is the way theyll stay its not gonna get much better.
But dont jump off a cliff just yet cos i manage my way through this by dosing up on large quantities of alcohol and listening to heavy metal and playing violent videogames.
I take all my hate out on my skin by having tattoos that represent some of this, true they last for ever but as thats only gonna be for another 60 years or less i dont think it matters much,and no i dont think there is any afterlife or savior or god thats just ridiculous.
The truth hurts you could go mental and end up on anti depresents but that still wont cure anything.
Life sucks at least we have a neo geo for some sort of escapeism.

Yeah, you either accept what you see or live your life constantly questioning it,when you question it youll never get a satisfactory answer or youll end up with another question that needs answering.
Thats why people generaly stop questioning
and give themselves a reason why they are here and just get on with there lives,its when they decide to go round spreading that reason to other people, ie in the case of religion its personal choice and i dont want to step on anyones toes here but dont spread a product that you have no proof exists.

I think we give ourselves a future hope and afterlife to make the thought of death more comforting,but im afraid it doesnt wash off with me im a realist.
And although matrix makes a good theory thats all it is thats all anything is a given answer to a question that is plausable but you have no proof,stop questioning and just accept whatever you beleave but dont preach it as if others have to beleave everything you say is the truth,if it is
at least put the proof in front of them.

I would like to hope the whole meaning in life is:

I know none of these can be true, because one would be a fool to think this.

Everything you said is true. Your life means nothing if you do nothing great. I'll bet you find yourself wondering, "In 100 years, will anyone remember I existed?" If you are pissed off or depressed because human life is just like an insects, but with sentience, birth, work, die, then get out and do something to be remembered by. Blow up a building full of people, crash a plane into a baby. Use explosives to carve your name on the moon. I don't hold that against you though, we're taught to look pessimistically at things in this society of ours. All of our media preaches it. If you keep an optimistic attitude, according to the media, you're living a "fool's dream". Well, to that I say BULLSHIT!

What I'd recommend to you is surround yourself with the things you like, be it favorite movies, video games, music, whatever. Go out and socialize with people who share your same thoughts on things. That may be going out to a mall, shooting pool, hitting a titty bar, whatever, but there's plenty to do. Thing is, if you sit around and analyze anything to death, you can always put a negative spin on it. And why? Why do things have to be negative to be taken seriously?

Hey, I don't know your age, not that it matters, but I know I was pretty down about a lot of things when I was a teenager. But my cousin set me straight one time when I went to visit him. I looked around his pad, and saw all the anime posters on the walls, comic books everywhere, his art desk with his latest work on it, and the whole scene just looked "right" to me. And he pointed it out that he liked to stay positive, get into the things that interested him, not dwell on negative things. I dunno, but it hit home then, and I've managed to stay that way myself ever since.

Thinking about things through and through can be cool sometimes, but other times, you'll find, it's just time wasting. There's a few lines in a song by Henry Rollins that says:
"If you think you got 100 years to mess around
You're wrong!
Your time is here
Your time is now
It's time to shine
It's hero time!
No such thing as free time
No such thing as down time
No such thing as spare time
All you got is life time"

I dunno if I answered your question, but it's after 4:30 in the a.m. and I gotta go to bed real soon. Hope this little rant helped either way...
