Strategy - usually I just try to get in a screen with extra static items, like crates, or chairs. The place in Japan, by the big noise factory sign is where I got my high score. Just do AAABBA+B/special, and try to move to the next character standing fast enough - if they try to avoid you move to the box and hit it a few times to keep the meter up...
Makes me wonder if there's a cheat to keep the meter up longer with the dip codes.

You won't be seeing the big combos unless you set to level 8 difficulty. This gives the enemies a lot more HP.
The highest combo for me is 138 hits on Italy.
Sometime I'll sit down and try to rack up some massive combos on the last stage. Constant swarms of 4 on-screen enemies are just begging for big combos.
And for a bonus tip for the last boss, use Kurenai and her Down, Down A special. You won't get countered by the boss' flame attack.
