Care to elaborate on this rank thing?
If you've ever played Ibara or Battle Garegga (or basically any shootie made by Raizing) you've seen the rank system in action.
Basically, the higher the rank, the more difficult the game is.
Rank raises:
-Every moment the game is being played
-Every item you pick up (basically making Ibara and Garegga so that you want to only pick up certain more effective powerups) [but you want to collect all medals for score - in Pork, this is gold instead of medals]
-when you have extra lives in stock (meaning you want to play well enough to get extra lives and score well, but die to avoid having too many stocked up)
Rank lowers:
-when you die
-when you bomb
(there's a lot more to it, it's really hard to understand until you spend a ton of time with one of those games)
