Which do you prefer?

Do you absolutely HAVE to use a Stick for Fighters and Shooters?

I do. The Agetec stick has spoiled me.

stick for both. I like the ball top type for fighters, and the tear drop type for shooters. I hold the tear drop type between my first two fingers and thumb, while I rest the bottom of my fist on the cabinet surface.

It doesn't matter to me. If the control pad is good, I can live with it for fighting games like the PS. I don't like the DC pad so I bought a stick for that. I like the SNES controllers so I use those and I use a control pad for the Saturn. I use the joystick for the Neo and DC.

don't play shooters.

Sticks are a MUST for fighters. people who play with pads kinda get partial to them, and do shitty in the arcades. maybe not YOU personally, but it's a fairly accurate generalization. I think it's a sin to use pads for fighters, fighting games are meant to be played in the arcade, aren't they?

Well then make the home experience as accurate as you can.

yes, sticks for fighters, ALWAYS.

i use the official US non-click stick for saturn (IT'S GOOD!), the ASCII stick for DC, and the old style SNK sticks for Neo.

Yeah, I'm not that great at 2D fighters in the arcades, but I don't play much at arcades any more (no good ones locally )

If I could pick up a couple of old style Neo sticks I'd probably practice more and improve as I really like them. I hate the CD style stick I've got at the moment, that's why I'm using pads for my Neo games...

I use the pads for every game, especially fighters. I can't seem to pull off the super moves with the stick, but with the pads, there's no problem.

Ditto. I prefer the pads usually, because it's kinda hard to be comfortable with a joystick on a table--usually too low or too high :/ And I'm really used to playing with pads... I make less mistakes with pads...

Sticks all the fuckin way. For any game actually, except maybe rpg's. After using a stick for a few years pad's feel like play school joysticks, they suck balls

I use pads for fighters, I just can't work with sticks for fight games. But for shooters, racers etc a stick is pretty cool. It basically doesn't matter only for the fighting games. I find it hard to pull off big moves and special moves.

But NeoGML is right, I need to practise with sticks for fighters. There is comming a small tourney in May for 2d fighters, including some KoF games. It's pretty much my first tourney if theyll actually will get enough ppl.

I agree. It sure takes some getting used to . I remember playing KoF 98 on the DC with my Agetec for the first time when it came out, and it took a few months to get the hang of it. If you spend the time and patience to use a stick, it will be very rewarding, and you will never use a pad again.
