Transfering songs on an ipod?

I've been looking at the ipod touch but have put it off since I know how gay ipods are with not letting you remove mp3s from them and putting them on your computer, but is there a way to transfer songs from my existing ipod onto a new one? I dont have most of the albums anymore.

There are a ton of programs out there that can accomplish this.

One that comes to mind is F-Pod. Not sure if there is a new version, but the last one I used allows you to rip off the songs from the iPod and go from there. Though I'm not sure how it will handle Protercted songs (assuming you bought songs off of ITunes)
