Hey guys,

I have been a loan officer for about a month, & I never expected to get into this kind of business. So, I was wondering, what kind of jobs do you have, & how did you get about it?

Right now I'm an Editorial Assistant. It's the best job I've ever had and I really dig it. Then again, after working at Funco and doing Medical Billing -anything- is an improvement :tickled:

Turkey Farmer. Grew up with it. Never thought I would do it once I got out of school, but look at me. I'm still a turkey farmer.

Primarily I'm a Network Engineering student, but I'm also a power equipment technician trying to break into the IT field. Pretty boring stuff..

"Clerk" in the Home department at Fry's Marketplace.

It means I'm a stocker boy. Hopefully sometime this summer I'll be getting into an editing position with a local company who produces demo reels for aspiring actors.

Professional Student.

heh, actually that's the correct and appropriate title at my school for being in a "Professional School" (Med/Law/Dentistry) vs. a "Graduate School" (more academic so MAs/PhDs/etc).

Specifically I'm a full time law student.

I've worked a number of interesting jobs before that, but I'm not in the mood to type it all out.

I am desktop support for a big company.

How'd I get my job? By working at another PC joint near where I work now, where I work now was looking for contractor help, I went through my company. After 3 months, they knew I knew my shit, I interviewed and I got the job. They love me.

Right now I work at a publishing company. Sounds kinda cool...but it isn't, as i work in the sales dept. putting info into spreadsheets. Hopefully there will be an opening in the editorial dept. and i'll get the job after i wow them with my mad english skillz...but i doubt it.

I too have worked various jobs including (but not limited to) guy who paints lines on running tracks, ticket taker at Gilette Stadium, CSR at a company handling long term disability claims for the State of Virginia, secretary (LOL), Snack Shack manager (AKA looking at chicks in bikinis and eating slush all day), and, for one brief shining day, amusement ride operator...that's right, i was a carny...

I'm a full time college student, and I'm employed four nights a week at a local home alarm call center. We're an independently contracted call center that gets local overflow from a few big providers like Sloman's and several smaller local ones. We also manage calls for a Life Alert type service.

Basically the procedure is that an alarm goes off (99/100 times it's a false alarm) in someone's home and it pops up on the monitor. It'll autodials their number (before the upgrade in march I had to dial their numbers manually, that's alot of work :p, yes this job is that boring). You try to contact them and confirm it's a false alarm, if you can't the local police dept gets notified and they send a patrol car over. With the elderly paging service since there's no direct contact, they press a button and a device connected to the phone line dials out, you just immediately contact their local emergency center.

What some of you will find alarming is that it's such a non-job (I mean you can't even risk fucking up the number given the auto-dialing equipment). That there's a TV in here and we can surf the web from our desks, study, and basically do whatever we want to pass the huge amount of time between calls, just drop whatever your doing when you get an alert and it's fine.

Test grader for Arkansas Benchmark tests. 4th, 6th, 8th grades. It pays good, it's easy work, but the drive is HELL 1.5 hours to work ONE WAY.

I would be doing something with my telecom degree, but due to a shitty job market, IT decripitude, inept college instructors (the chair of the department was FIRED when I went to school there, if that tells a story), and my own laziness/apathy the last 1.5 years of school, I'm in a perpectual HELL of job scrambling.

Japanese tutor (not on payroll statistics)
Sales associate at an apparel retail chain (on payroll statistics)
Typesetting & proofreader at publishing arm of a university (on payroll statistics)
Copyediting/Advertising layout artist at a newspaper (on payroll statistics)

And sales associate is the lowest paying of the jobs I have :(
