I like em just fine.

But when it comes to getting a game I'm not that picky with what version it is.

kizuna US?

I like English carts a lot better than Japanese carts... You know what language I speak? English. You know what language I don't speak? Japanese. You know what I like to be able to do when I buy things? Read the fuckin' manual.

I seriously doubt any of the people in this thread who say they prefer Japanese carts can read Japanese. I don't even know what makes you guys say the art is better on Japanese versions either... They all look pretty much the same to me. I'd really like to see these Japanese boxes that are so much better than the English ones, because I can't find any...

I'm even gonna take the time to step up and defend the Dog Tag games. Sure the "Bigger, Badder, Better" logo looks stupid (it is true though <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">) I think the solid black background looks damned spiffy... I'd really like to get a Dog Tag Ghost Pilots, I think it looks way cooler than my cardboard box version...

I don't know what it is with people preferring things in a language they can't read, it makes no sense to me. It makes less sense considering the content on the game is unchanged, and it makes even less sense that you guys seem to think that English carts aren't sought after... English versions of games are always, 100% guaranteed to be worth more than the Japenese counterparts. Look at Mark of The Wolves... When I sold my copy I could have gotten an extra $100 for it on the spot if it was an English cart. Metal Slug is another good example... How much more is that worth than the Japanese cart? I'm not sure what you're on if you think nobody but Americans want English carts. If nobody but us wants them then we must play a damn huge role in deciding the cart prices then...

Well actually i can read japanese (hiragana and katakana), but, anyway, in a NEO game what's so important to read, since the game plays in english on an english machine...?
The manual or the notes on the inserts...?
If there are import games that can be fully enjoyed, these are NEO games...

personally

i prefer the spine, cover and back of every jap cart

theyre so colorful and fantastic

us carts.....theyre dull i just dont like em

true,
us motw is worth more

but who cares?

id NEVER swap my jap motw for an english copy

about the manual

i just dont care

i dont need to read stuff like

you're the hero, save the princess and then save the entire world

plus,
many neo games are fighting games

so what do i care about the manual?

i know the moves already,
and if i dont

theres always the practice mode or gamefaqs

and yes
the majority of european people prefer japanese stuff

us carts are sought after only in america

just my two pennies,chainsawyak

looks like we finally disagree on something

I prefer US games because I just like to have official printed matter in English - a language I can read. If I don't have a choice, I will go with the JPN version, so its not a big trauma for me. However, US is my preference.

Japanese versions all the way.
Example Metal Slug US is poping up regularly these days, anyone seen a jap one poping up like that? Then you gotta be lucky to find it. Look at Tonk who offered 1500$ and still didn't got any offers. So what's the difference there between a US or jap one? nada. The buyer determines how much he want's to spend on a game. The only reason why jap games are less worth than english ones? Because NGF and some other idiots say they are worth more, and you people believe them. It's the same game, other insert so where's the pricedifference in that?

I agree with chainsawyak and outsider. I prefer the English versions, mainly so I can check out the back cover text and manual. If I find the cart as JPN format, I'll pick it up, and I do agree with Fran and others here that the artwork on JPN copies is often better than U.S., but I do prefer to be able to read the insert/manual . . . <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Oh, and btw I do have quite a few JPN carts in my collection . . . and the artwork IS very nice on many of them!! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

And for Last Resort, I think the English versions are often worth more because less of them were made . . . simple supply and demand.

I began to buy JAP game imports as soon as I bought the Sega Master System, later on the Genesis/Mega Drive, at first mainly because of NTSC, which, with its 60Hz, offers a full screen picture and faster game play (unlike our federal European moronic #!@]@§ 50Hz PAL).

Later I found that the cover art of most JAP versions is much more elaborated, and due to the fact that I always preferred arcade-style games, I never really needed to have an english manual. The initial lack of easily accessible game hints back in the pre-www days and the resulting slow learning process with all those cryptic Japanese docs was part of the gaming experience for me, and it still is somehow (mainly because I'm usually too lazy to read manuals)...

The Japanese covers are better in most cases - I mean, c'mon, take a look at FF/FF2 for ex. The US covers look more than ugly.

I prefer JPN carts, for a number of reasons:

1. Yes, the USA art is pretty much the same, with the exception of the gray borders. the gray borders i just don't like.

2. As for the japanese text issue, i don't know, i only really look thru the manual. It does piss me off sometimes that i can't read it, but i like the circular NEO GEO logo better than the US one, and i like the spines a little better.

3. usually not freaked

4. All the KOFs are in Japanese, and if i got all english KOFs, i'd have to buy some NGF KOF2K english copy, and even though i know there is probably going to be some english release of 2K1, i don't feel like risking it.

Hey yeah, it's totally a matter of opinion. But the people who say the art on Japanese carts is sooo much better arej ust grasping for straws... The art is almost identical.

Okay, yeah Fatal Fury is an example I was looking for, that's pretty fuckin' bad English cover art. FF2 has a cool cover for both though, I don't think one is much better than the other.... But still, that's only one game.

I gotta agree though, I think the black background looks pretty nice. That's why I think Sengoku 3 has such a nice insert, and that's why I was defending the Dog Tag games, aside from a dorky logo, they all have solid black backgrounds and look nice! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I really to prefer to be able to read the manual and stuff when I buy things... I mean, I have nothing against Japanese carts, but when I have an option and it's the exact same game otherwise, I'll always choose English carts if the price is the same... The fact that English carts hold their value better is also a plus. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

US for me all the way! And I know many guys here in Germany who think the same way. Why?

Simple:

1. Spine is much much more beautiful with the puristic styling: Just the Neo Geo logo, the game logo and the megs logo, that`s it.
Japanese spines confuse with strange colors, one inappropriately applied screenshot and unreadable Japanese hieroglyphics. AND THE SPINE IS WHAT YOU SEE OF THE CART MOST NOT THE COVER - that`s why this is much more important. True it is nevertheless that the jap covers are nicer.

2. Manual and Insert are readable - I REALLY enjoy SNK Engrish <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

3. US carts are much more likely to keep their value than jap ones and even increase.

4. The japanese Neo Geo logo is sooo kiddie style - Euro Neo Geo logo rocks!

my 2 cents ...

I'm of the exact same opinion as you, except on number 3. I don't care about carts maintaining value. I'm not in it to make money off of them.

But it`s nonetheless nice they do not loose their value as fast as jap ones if you want to get your investment back one day isn`t it?
