so i've been trying to write a book, but its hard for me to express myself and to put my ideas in order, so i figured id use an ai tool I used chatgpt and even paid for premium but the think can only handle so much information before it starts fucking up and data leaking. Like i got the story outlined but i wanted to use the ai to help me fill in the blanks to develop the fluff between key points, now i jsut spent 10 hours and its all fucking fucked up right now and ive been trying to fix the data leaks but characters got mixed up, genders are mixed up, my shit isnt supposed to read like a gen z reddit post. anyways im just askign if anyone on the forum ever used any ai tools to write stories, like at first i just inputed characters and their background and had the profiles lined up and chat gpt was working great but once i got to 7 characters and 4 locations it fucked hte pooch ard.

tl;dr what ai tool be good ?

Azra, it's me. The Big Dawg. Go on and tell us about your book. I support you and hope you finish. I don't even care if you publish it, but from man to man - I hope you finish writing this book. Don't let me down, brother. I'll read it if you do.

I don't think AI is at the stage yet, where it can write a novel, without any mistakes, or weird parts.

If you want to write a book, write a book. If you use AI, that's not writing a book. That's having an idea and then having someone/something else write the book. Like a ghostwriter, but worse. That's meaningless. Don't be a pussy. If you're not confident in your current writing ability, keep writing. And then keep writing. Shortcuts are an illusion.

Yeah sounds like you already answered your own question. The problem with chatgpt is it has the memory of a goldfish but most people don't want to read a book written by AI. There will soon be such an AI fatigue people will deliberately look for works created before the AI boom. Its already happening with search engines.

If you enjoy writing just practice like anything else.

ok ok y'all are write, I shouldn't be taking shortcuts.

My story goes against "community outlines" so half the shit gets censored, you can't write about rape or murder. So i can't even really use chatgpt to help me out in this.

I do however need some sort of tool to organize my thoughts, everything is spread out right now, I don't know if its better to go chronologically in the order of the story or move back and forth. This was my original intent with ChatGPT to have everything organized, but to also be able to cross reference shit but this bitch keeps dropping the ball and lying to my face. I thought it would of been a like a virtual secretary but its more like a virtual international student here with a bogus visa.

I dropped out of highschool at an early age because I gave up on life and let myself become a product of the enviroment I was in. So I lack the confidence in the quality of my english, but I sat down here and took the time to really articulate myself and I guess I am not that bad at this.

A lot of writers use a wall with notes or a big whiteboard to set out timelines, characters and key plot points etc. visually. Something aside from traditional notes. You have to find a method or methods that work for you and often those methods aren’t strictly in writing.

I'd say that if you're having trouble turning a phrase, use AI as a kind of thesaurus and guide to help you understand how to hone your craft but don't copy it verbatim and only use it for ten words or less to get you on track. Use it for ideas but don't let it do the work for you.

I can’t write for shit but I’m a bit surprised no one here who can hasn’t told you to just read more books.

I read a lot but it doesn't really help me hone my craft as a writer that much. I know that many successful authors say this but it's just not a method of learning that helps me develop my own skills anymore.

I think writing is more of a method formed by habit than anything else. I also think that anyone that wants to write should not worry too much about edits until the work is finished. Trying to write the perfect chapter has ended more than one career before it ever got started.

STK is right in a sense about 'just writing'. Over time, if someone develops good writing routines, they will inevitably improve their craft. More importantly, they will learn whether or not writing books is for them or not.

Yeah, I think it works for some people but not for others. Reading can train your brain by expanding your vocabulary without you even knowing it but it doesn't translate to me being a better writer.

Using AI to write a book is gay as fuck BUT if OP wants to write a book he should BUT we should also all lean into our strengths.
