FFG is coming out with a 40K themed version of Talisman:

I might check out 6th edition of 40K when they release the new starter set. Assault on Black Reach was a fantastic set, and I imagine the 6th ed starter will be as well. The 5th ed starter came with a mini-rulebook that omitted a lot of art and fluff, but had all the rules one needed to play.

I hope they have a preview of that at Gen Con next weekend.

Yeah that'd be cool.

I'm personally waiting for FFG's new Star Wars game. Check that out.

That looks intriguing. I will also be at Gencon again this year. Talisman is fun, but almost no strategy. Roll, choose which direction, do square.

Really? Have you played the newest release with some of the expansions? Thats one of the best things about it is that its not all just luck of the roll or card draw now. with the addition of the fate and the expansion that adds death and now this werewolf one it really changes things up. Then all the spells that people sit on waiting for just the right time to use them as well as the random ending cards.

I have played most of the expansions, but not that werewolf one. It's still really unbalanced and luck, but fate helps that slightly.

For the same amount of time, you could play a game of Descent, which is much more rewarding.

I just got Mage Knight the board game for my epic fantasy game needs. I have Descent 1e and 2e as well but those scratch another itch for me.

Cool, I had heard it was going to be Dark Angels vs Eldar or Dark Eldar (bleh) but vs Chaos? Sign me up. Save me from buying the rulebook as well.

Got back from gencon yesterday. I was supprised to see Games Workshop there and Forge World as well. GW had been refusing to go to cons for years if they were not centered around them. I was not impressed enough by the Forge World con exclusive figures to buy either one. GW was going paint demos to sell their new line. They did not bring much stock of anything but had a computer set up so that you could order on line right there. I was not impressed. Their new paint line was okay, at least some of it was better than their last from what I was able to tell when I got to paint with it. However I don't see myself buying into it.

All in all they had one thing there I would love to have gotten and may order on line. The paint station+

To me it looks cool at least. I would have bought it if they had it.

I was actually looking at a lot of paint as I've been wanting to find something I liked.

I've gotten pretty tired of the ones I've been using and after a lot of searching and demos I decided on going with Revolution.

www.Prismgamer.com

I wated until the last day of the convention and then asked them what kind of deal they would cut me if I bought the entire line. I was pretty happy and walked with a new paint set.

I've been making the move into historicals and Wargames Factory had one heck of a sale at the con. Any of their box sets were $16.00, they are normally 19.99 - 29.99. Not only that it was buy five and get the 6th one free + a free sprue of their new zombie vixens with every sale. I bought like 12 boxes of 30ish figures. I really hope to get some painting in soon. I want to get some warbands done so I can try out Saga. I've been reading through the rules and think it looks like a very awesome game.
Anyone interested in dark age type games should check it out. It's being put out by Gripping Beast.

While at the con I got to see the promo of that 40K relic game. The stuff looked pretty sharp but it won't be out until november.

A new fantasy skirmish game called Freeblades caught my eye and I got to demo it. Almost was willing to buy into it as I liked a lot of things about the rules. I think I'll wait to see how it goes though as I've gotten into enough small games that never took off and it sucks having no one to play with.

Also there were a lot of working girls up there this year. One had a sign that said free hugs so my friend got a hug and she was all like so you guys want a private party. We were good with the free hug. I went to spend my money on games, if I wanted to spend it on second rate whores I could have done that at home.

Hrm. I didn't see GW in the Exhibition hall. They must have been off in another section. I had to really track down the new games this year.
I actually liked X-wing and Relic from FFG.

I also waited until Sunday to try and get some deals. The down side there is items are often sold out.

GW was not selling their stuff so much as promoting it. They were in with Forge World, but it was their GW staff. They were right near Wargames Factory and directly behind Warstore.

It was Games Workshop, Forge World and Black library all in one booth.. I think it was booth 1743 - I had my little map and was making plans to hit each booth I wanted to check out. Then did the wander around thing after that.

You're right about stuff being sold out. First day PP sold out of most of their con stuff it seemed. Rio Grand Games sold out of their new Dominion expansion, and so on.. it was like most of the major vendors had no idea how much stuff to bring.

Creates an elevated sense of Demand. They know what to bring...
Netrunner was the big talk. 200 copies gone in minutes.

This one ended too quickly for me. I didn't get any tabletop time. I did get to see a little of Masters. The trollblood player took what other players call our worst models, and hit second place. It was amazing. Mountain King, Gunnbjorn, and the winter troll all in one list. crazy.

I keep telling myself I'll enter something into the Privateer press painting contest. I'm too afraid of failure.
Single models has heavy competition. About 30-40 models.

Units, conversions, and diorama's usually only have 4-5 entrants. Almost guaranteed an honorable mention.

I've been making a move out of most of my miniature gaming stuff. I'm trying to thin down my collection to just the games I'll actually play or the things I want to paint.

Anyhow to that effect I've started putting large chunks of my collection up on ebay. Mind you I don't much like ebay but where I live there is really almost no market and I've sold everything locally that I could. The amount of stuff that I've in storage that I'll never use is beyond stupid. For years I would buy lots of things just to get a few figures I wanted and would horde back the rest.

Anyhow if anyone is interested in any of my ebay auctions I'm willing to cut you guys here a deal or can end something early if there is something you have to have.
I'm starting listing things today and will be doing so as I clean out my storage. If anyone wants my auction links just pm me.

Aside from that I've been getting into Saga and building myself a viking army. So far I've only got about half the figures assmbmled but plan on having a warband of about 40 minis. The game rules are pretty exciting and fresh for a dark age historical. Saga is put out by Gripping Beast and worth checking out if you are into dark ages stuff or just want a change from fantasy type gaming.

I'm interested in Dreadball but don't have the cash to drop on the Kickstarter right now, unfortunately.

Anyone get the new starter set? I kind of want to get it just to see what changes they've made in the rules. I've still less than enthralled with most of GW's rulesets...

I built this today as I currently had no where to really work on any miniatures. I've been feeling like working on some because it's something I do enjoy, even if I don't actually play 40K that much. Still fun to make shit and play make believe:

Anyway, It's not done. I'm going to hit it with a coat of paint and then start working on da ladz again.

I have some Deffkopta from the 5th ed starter I never got around to painting...

Got a box of Dryads from my next door nerd shop, and lo and behold, there was an old friend of mine getting paints and figures for his son, koll, the torch passes on. What do you think of the new WD? Personally I see it as an improvement. (It's still a glorified ad though)

The guys who play 40K down at the local hobby shop have really been talking up the new rules set. They all seem to like it quite a bit, other than the price. That and the price of the faction books they are unhappy with as well.

Not much else is getting played from what I've seen last few times I've been down to the shop. I stopped being a pressganger for privateer and no one else was willing to step up and run events or such so Warmachine has really dropped off.

It's mostly just card players and an rpg group. Every now and again there is a minaiture game going. I think things will improve with our local hobby scene in time though, as its tough for those young gamers to drop cash on miniatures and such right now.

I painted about 150ish figures the for the last month or so. Building myself an army for some 15mm science fiction gaming. Doing up a Terminatorish theme force to put the smack down on some humanity.

Also I plan on using them double duty as a necron force for some 15mm scale 40K. Going to build up an IG type force as well and maybe some Orcs or such

Here are a few blurry pics of that effort.
