Crank 2: Actually Good!

The universe is a strange place.

Against all odds and logic, I found Crank 2 to be entertaining and worthy of my 13(!) Canadian dollars.

It reuses an uncomfortable amount of plot elements from the first movie (it would probably be shorter to list the new elements of the plot).

However, for some reason it works.

Little touches like bringing back pretty much the whole cast from the first movie (even the guy pushing a gurney in the hospital in the first movie Statham holds a gun to) added some value.

But the whole thing was a crazy mess, and I think that's what they were going for.

Somehow it works.

For reference's sake, I watched the trailer that was previously posted on the Crank 2 thread and was not very impressed or stoked.

Will they be able to keep this up for Crank 3? I'm willing to find out.

shit as soon as they announced a crank 2 i knew it would be some what good, i mean if you liked the first movies it pretty much the same but much weirder. i watched it last night and it was a great movie, but i hate the stupid Godzilla ripoff/fight scene fucking killed the flow of the movie. other than that everyone that like the first should deff check it out.

If Statham is in it, usually I'll watch it because I know he's the one dude who still delivers ACTION, ACTION, ACTION! Gone are the days of the 80s and early 90s "Action" films that didn't have to be totally believable to enjoy, loved CRANK so I'm gonna have to call up my homie who's rolled out with me to go see "Turkish Kick Some Ass" (we still call him Turkish, if I ever meet Statham I'm going to say: What up Turkish?). I had forgot the release date for this flick.

I know what I'll be watching later tonight.

I watched it on a rec from a friend.
It was basically a movie made for someone with ADD.
I thought them using Dwight Yokum for the doctor was interesting.
mildly interested in seeing the second.

Finally saw it today (TWICE), and was just the smash cut insanity I needed to break up a stress filled and monotonous last month. It went completely overboard indeed and was all the more awesome for it. I still prefer the first one actually, but unlike Transporter 2, this sequel is equally good as part one. *Here's to hoping that CRANK 3 comes out.

A little off-topic, but 13 bucks in BC? Did you see it on IMAX? Here in Ottawa, a ticket at a SilverCity is $9, or $4 on Tuesdays.

It was $11.95 + 12% taxes = 13.38.

Pretty grim, and pretty much the reason I don't go to the movies very often.

The theater was Silvercity Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby BC... which has yet another smaller Famous Players / Cineplex theater called Station Square in the same friggin mall.

I can't complain; Station Square is cheaper (but older), but usually has older movies.

I actually live in Victoria, but if I recall correctly, the prices are the same. West Coast life if expensive. I mean, houses are basically 50% of the price in Ottawa that they are in Victoria, and even cheaper compared to most of the greater Vancouver Area.

But, there are still some kick ass arcades in Vancouver, so that's at least something :).

Arcade... What's that?! Hehe, if I want to play an arcade game I have to go to a movie theatre (irony) or children's party restaurant (cue strange looks from concerned parents) or hit up Montreal or Toronto. Better yet, I'll go to scgon's house; he's got 5 beautiful cabs in his gamesroom.

I went to visit my dad when he was working in Victoria; what a beautiful quaint city. The contrast between Vic and Van was very pronounced. Getting off that ferry was like crossing into a whole different country, but I enjoyed my time in both cities.

On-topic, we'll probably go see Crank 2 on this Tuesday cheap night, was a big fan of the first one. It looks beautiful and so... saturated in Bluray.

Chev Chelios IS my favorite character of Statham's career, even over "Turkish" and after this film he's simply "Chelios" in my book. FTW Indeed. Dwight Yokham's quip straight out of Dave Chapelle/Wayne Brady though had me in stitches.

I had no idea that dude with the mullet cut was Corey Haim! :lolz:
I thought there was something about the guy that looked familiar
but couldn't place it. It's just too bad Heather Graham didn't make
a cameo as an aged Mercedes Lane who's working for him as a stripper
opposite Lemon (Amy Smart).

I also wanted more Bai Ling (I've liked her in everything shes done) but
didn't get that wish, though seeing her bounced off a car was awesome.

yeah, i knew haim was gonna be in this, the writers wanted him for the first film but he was fucked up on drugs or something and couldnt do it. he's gonna be in part 3 too if it happens.

One of the main reasons why I enjoyed the first one so much was the cinematography. All sorts of rapid-cuts and swinging cameras and crazy shit that made me feel like I was sorta in-on this adrenaline rush. Since you seem to know the first one, would you say that this part of the movie's charm was successfully replicated in the second one? (I honestly won't see it if it didn't.) :annoyed:

#1> No I didn't realize that was Lauren Holly brah. I was just waiting for her to drop to her knees and blow the dude though, and then for Chelios to walk in and the guy starts yelling, and in the freaked out moment the chick would've bit the dudes cock off... but the scene was still hilarious. Never cared for Lauren Holly, but she looked good for her brief scene... chick was getting me hot & bothered with all her dirty talk.

#2> I'm just trying to figure out what a Part 3 would be about though. I mean we've done the Adrenaline thing, now the electricity high voltage thing, what could they possibly do? Haim in part three... yeah I guess. I didn't think his role was all that great though, but if him and Corey Feldman both showed up as two bit thugs for like 30 seconds and then got ran over by Chev Chelios behind the wheel of an 18 Wheeler screaming "Move it you cunts!" that be the shit. Corey Feldman's last words are:

"GOD I love this neighborhood!" then dies as Bruce Dern walks across the street with a bag of groceries and gets into a Smart Car.

This film has the same kinetic energy/smash cuts that the first one did, and picture the insanity of part 1, CRANKED up to the 3rd power. That's HIGH VOLTAGE! I love how the filmmaker behind these films has captured exactly how my brain moves... both are visual representations of the transistions in my mind from random milli second porn thought about a chick I see that I like, to me screaming about something, to visions of nuclear mushroom clouds, to serenity... and then:

"What were you saying?" (speaking to the person speaking to me) All in about less than four seconds.

Seriously... if you loved CRANK, you have to see this one.

"Actually good" is like the biggest understatement ever.

IT WAS FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE. A friend and I saw it twice in a row last Saturday.

I was trying to think of bad things about the film - all I could think of is that it doesn't have character development. To that, my friend said that it didn't have TIME for character development. That's how insane it is. I think that's a compliment.

FUCKING AMAZING

DOES DOC MILES GOTTA CHOKE A BITCH?

I'D KILL TO HAVE CHOCOLATE LAYING ON MY LAP WHILE I RUBBED HER ASS AND WATCHED TV ALL DAY

Also,

I'M GONNA FUCK THAT BITCH IN THE BACK OF YOUR CAR!!!

WHERE THE FUCK IS MY STRAWBERRY TART!?

Oh - and I'm a HUGE Mike Patton fan - that movie was seriously a NONSTOP ORGASM for me.

Gott in Himmel (sp, Tak?), that was awful. I love Statham and Perlman both, still terrible, of course.

Still haven't seen that one OR "The Bank Job"

The Bank Job is very good. Good script, interesting plot, Statham actually has to act for a change, and he does a nice job.

On topic- Crank 2 was a bit of a letdown, honestly, for me. Didn't have the creativity of the first. It was even more insane, I think, which was fun, but it just seemed perfectly content to go with that and didn't try to recapture that same spark that the first one had. At least IMO. And as far as I can tell, there's going to be a third one, which I don't recommend, quite honestly.

Chicken. And Broccoli.

:lolz:

...yeah I fucking "died" when he said that. It wasn't
really funny, yet it was. I usually always refer to
turning someone into MuShu Pork personally, but
Chicken and Broccoli is good too. Someone should
shout that in an FPS game when they frag someone.

#1> Now I'll have to buy Bank Job if he actually has to act.

#2> Well I'll respect your opinion, and what you say is a valid
point, but I do think that was the point though. We didn't get
much character development because it's not necessary. I still
want to know what that Asian dude was lugging around in that
cooler since it wasn't Chelios' heart.

#3> You honestly don't want ONE MORE outing of this insanity?
This is like the anthem of the Nintendo Generation in terms of
ADD/AD-HD attetion spans and balls-to-the-wall momenteum! I
personally cannot wait for a part 3.

Dudes, Crank 2 completely ONE UPED the first Crank. You are bat-shit crazy if you think otherwise. I want a 3rd film for sure.
