This is sort of an addendum to NeoGeoNinja's original thread found here.

My neighbours smoking on their balconys drives me nuts. Smokers, please explain to me why you smoke, now that we know everything about it.

Fuck smokers. Seriously. It's disgusting. Hopefully we've moved on from stupid crap like this by 2050 or some shit. Just nuke the fucking manufacturers. Figuratively, at least.

I enable vegans, boring people and the super-healthy to activate their rage genes by blowing smoke into their faces. I mean, someone has to do it, all those trained reflexes have to be triggered every now and then, otherwise they might start eating red meat again.

I tried smoking when I was teenager, but didn't like it at all, so, I never took it up.

I quit smoking when I turned 30 just because I thought it was time to take a bit better care of myself. As to why people still smoke despite the known health risks, erm, because it's still fucking awesome?!

Seriously, if they invented a genuinely safe cigarette I'd be lighting it before I finished typing this sentence. It's hard to comprehend the beautiful feeling of purpose and repeated satisfaction that a hardened addiction can bring unless you've experienced it.

I used to smoke, alot. When I worked in a kitchen the ONLY reason you were allowed a break was to have a cigarette, even going to the toilet was considered less important.

I still smoke pot occasionally. Mainly using a vaporizer or bong as that's gentler on the throat.

A friend of mine got a strange look asking if he could 'bum a fag' outside a pub in New York. Over in Scotland, that translates to 'could you give me one of your cigarettes kind sir/madam?'.

It's a pretty darn hard addiction to break. I've smoked since a very young age, and all the stress in life makes it even harder to quit. Overall, I know quitting smoking is one of the best health choices that one can make so I'm working on it. It's also damn costly, I used to pay $2.73 a pack and now it's $6-$7. It's quite a financial burden, all health issues aside. I thought I'd never be able to quit drinking, but it wasn't as hard as I thought. I quit smoking for 3 months once, never was it easy that entire time, and ultimately something extremely stressful occurred within my family and I bought a pack just to try to find anything to help. Smoking is expensive, bad for your health, bad for your teeth, bad for those around you, and it stinks.

I don't believe in restricting choices that one can make, so I sorta' have a libertarian stance on it
...but I think people need realize that smoking does nothing for you if you're not addicted, so please don't start. Besides guys, check out dating sites and you'll see that most lady's are seeking non-smokers. Plenty of reasons to never start. When I was younger you could still find cigarettes vending machines around and lots of liquor stores didn't check ID. At least in that sense things seem to be much more strict now.

Oh well, people deserve to make their own choices, and that includes bad ones. It's not like people can really smoke in most bars, restaurants or airplanes anymore.

No, it's forbidden in the great big book of vegan shenanigans by punishment of being killed by death.

Maybe in some places.

I think your average smoking vegan may not be aware of the potential animal products in some brands of cigarettes (castoreum).
I guess there are a lot of bad vegans out there (big surprise).

Fuck no! That shit is nasty.

I fully support the social stigma that smoking is for uneducated lower class trash. :glee:

Go to Japan and make that statement, pretty wealthy country and nearly every businessman smokes.

Having a holier than thou attitude makes you come across as a yuppie.

I'm educated lower class trash so that sort of breaks the theory, eh.

But don't worry, the stigma lies in the lower class thing. That's why people loved George Burns' cigars but hate mine.

Completely quit smoking last year. For the previous 10+ years, it was part of my evening ritual to smoke a quality cigar. I don't miss it too much but I've put on 20lbs since quitting so I may ironically die from not smoking ;)

What he said.

Also it's just satisfying. Besides everything is going to kill us anyways, might as well get some enjoyment out of this mortal coil on the way down.

I smoke when I drink. The thought ofa cigarette right now makes me want to puke, but as soon as I've had a couple of beers I'm asking friends if I can steal theirs.

I hate when social smokers bum all my cigarettes. I had one drinking buddy that never bought his own packs and he'd smoke through mine like a chimney after a few drinks. People who don't buy cigarettes themselves often don't seem to realize how expensive they are. (Not saying you bum them like crazy, I don't know your social smoking habits). One thing for sure though, I knew I had to quit drinking if I ever planned on successfully quitting smoking. Get me wasted and you won't see me without a smoke.

Smoked for 7 or 8 years. Quit 15 years ago. I'll occasionally bum one when I'm out drinking but otherwise, cold turkey. Don't particularly miss it.

I probably still would except I got tired of all of my stuff smelling like shit and it was crazy expensive where I used to live.

That said, militant non-smokers can choke on a spiked dick. I can appreciate that people don't want to have to deal with it in public, enclosed spaces but if someone's getting their nicotine fix in the designated area, leave them the fuck alone. They know it's bad for them. They know what it smells like. Go ruin someone else's day.
