So its quite clear that hands down the DS is crushing the PSP in the amount of quality games available. Are there any publicly available sales figures on the two systems so see which is doing better? I'm interested to see how each are selling in the US, Jap, Europe and the world as a whole. I'd appreciate if anyone has this info (sorry too lazy to google right now).

Yeah I'm sure SFZ3 will be awesome with an ANALOGUE stick. They have that crappy d-pad adapter, but i'm sure it will suck ass, and its supposedly only available limited in Japan.

DS>>>>>>>PSP

The D-pad adapter is far from crappy, and the analogue actually works pretty good. SFZ3 is so polished its unbelievable.
The only game that has even made me look at a DS for reasons of other than just to buy one for the sake of it is Biohazard.

I must be getting old or summat. lol, games.

How is SFZ3 sooo polished? I thought it was just a port of the arcade version. I doubt it'll be more polished than SFA3 for the dreamcast.

Famitsu reported that the Japanese console market has increased by 46.9% in 2005 comparing to previous year, due to the growth in the handheld market. The sales of console hardware reached 163.9 billion yen. Here are the sales of notable console hardware between December 27, 2004 to December 25, 2005:

1. Nintendo DS - over 4 million units
2. PSP - 2.22 million units
3. PlayStation 2 - 2.13 million units
4. Xbox 360 - 81,700 units

MVCUK revealed the hardware sales in UK during 2005, approx. 3.75 hardware were sold, an increase of 34% from 2004:

* PlayStation 2 - 1.2 million units
* PSP - 795,000 units
* Xbox 360 - 129,000 units
* Xbox - 265,000 units
* Nintendo DS - 800,000 units
* GameBoy Advance SP - 63,000 units

No real figures in the U.S. though. All I know is the gap isn't as big as it is in Japan. I think the PSP is doing pretty good for a $250 handheld.

worms on ds>>>>>>>>>>all. ;)

and psp won't be getting games like jump superstars and bleach ds, that alone accounts for like 20% of the ds sales'.

Nice thats exactly what I was lookin for. Have US sales figures been released anywhere? I know every now and again game magazines will publish the figures, but I haven't seen a year end '05 report for the consoles.

Not that I know of...atleast I haven't seen any. I saw the top 10 games of 2005 for the U.S., but nothing about the consoles.

In pure sales, DS is owning every other console in Japan. The last few weeks have had 7-9 DS games in the top ten software and as for the hardware DS did peak around Christmas with around 600 000 units sold in one week.

This graph shows Japanese DS hardware sales compared to hardware sales of all the other consoles on the market.

I think the sales in US and Europe are more moderate and around the same level as for the PSP. Wouldn't be surprised if the PSP has the upper hand.

You can find more info, graphs and numbers in this thread over at gaf.

Yes, you're probably right. Those UK figures show the PSP only just behind, but the PSP wasn't released here until September, while the DS was released in March (I think). Of course, we're still missing a lot of the decent DS games, too.

Agreed, some of the more promising DS-games will be released here in Spring as I've understood. Right now, the lineup seems quite thin if you visit a store with DS software. Also, I can't possible imagine DS having the same success here in Europe at all, even though there are recent reports of it doing very well in Spain for example.

We'll see, maybe the new sleek products will regain some ground.

Damn...First it was Bobak trying to inform people of worldly events and now charts showing sales of handheld systems/games. I am starting to feel like my four year degree isn't enough.

Cool chart by the way though.

Okay then what's so cool about it? I don't understand. Unless you mean what it shows and not the graph itself.

Am I suppose to care that you don't understand? But I will pretend that I do and say, I found the chart interesting. It was cool to see what games ect. caused the spikes (Sales) high and low on the chart.

And by the way...I never said anything about a graph ;)

all I can say is that I tried turning on my PSP after about 3 months of no use... and the thing was dead... no battery charge. Some how it was depleted.

now last year... I didn't have time for the DS (or any gaming) for about 5 months... but it didn't lose the charge like that.

well... anyway, all I have to say is that the PSP isn't getting any play. The DS ... I am loving it... I have over 17 DS games now. I've sold off all but 2 psp games.

maybe it's just me, I just don't care about the psp. It sucks because I paid the $250 for it... but it really just doesn't hold my interest yet. I still want to try Socom on it... hopefully that will capture my interest.

Lynx = uber strong and highly expensive...... failed to GB
Nomad = uber strong and highly expensive...... failed to GB
Turbo-Express = uber strong and highly expensive..... failed to GB

PSP = uber strong and highly expensive compared to both the GBA and DS.

I don't see a pattern here though because I lack a marketing degree.
