Back 20 years ago on Dreamcast .... this was by far my favorite fighting game. IMO it was on a complete other level from the other previous 7 fatal furies. The smoothness and animations were elite and a step above the rest in 2D (as I remembered).

So with the hype of City of Wolves ... I decided to download Fightcade and throw on MOTW like old times ...... and it absolutely sucked!!! Lag, choppy, animations aren't smooth ... just felt like a completely different game .. like an original Fatal Fury 1 or 2

Is this in my head or is it that Fightcade can't emulate the game like the DC port? Is it because I am on a 4k flat screen monitor compared to a classic analog tv? Or was MOTW not what I am remembering it out to be? Even the sounds weren't what I remembered.

If there is a technical difference would love to know.

Works great for me on fightcade... likely a problem with your setup.

There is no technical difference (it's the MVS rom) and the emulation is near flawless on Fightcade - for MOTW and just about any 2D arcade game from that era more or less. Fightcade uses the very stable FB Neo emulator as the back end. Might not be exactly as you remember, but it is exactly as it was (and is).

If you're playing on a modern TV display rather than a PC monitor, though, make sure your TV is set to Game Mode or whatever it's called on your set. If not, that will introduce a considerable amount of lag for any game and is especially noticeable on 2D games. The game will look pixelated and blown out just like all other low-res 2D games running on a 4K flat-panel display of any quality as opposed to a warm CRT.

It could be your set up, but Fightcade can run on a potato of a PC so I would imagine it's just a case of flawed memory if you haven't played in decades. 🤷‍♂️

Might be something to do with emulation problems.
The original Neo Geo game was head & shoulders above the gameplay of the Fatal Fury games before it. It's universally recognised as on of the best fighters on the Neo Geo.

Lagcade runs pretty shit by default on windows. To skip brevity and autism its because of how windows handles vsync and desktop composition.

So to have it match up to your boomer recollection you need to optimize. That means turning on game mode on your tv. That also means turning on runahead in the video options. This wil use more cpu but make it more responsive. Make sure you run fullscreen also as that also reduces input lag due to exclusive fullscreen like here if on winblows 10 https://www.reddit.com/r/fightcade/comments/b5d35c
Even if you do all this your experience might still suck cause your tv sucks. Skill issue.

it works great on fightcade for me. Though I remember back in the day i had a romset for NEORAGEX and that version garou had a problem with Tizoc stage.
The giant screen in the back would show messed up graphics. Thats the only issue i've ever personally seen with an emulated version of Garou

Quit blaming your lack of skills on the game.
