Genesis/MD 1 CSYNC Mod Necessary?

Why bother modding the console for CSYNC? Just put a 470 ohm resistor and 220uf cap in the cable to attenuate the TTL sync. Any reason people do this? I noticed @GadgetUK commented on this.

Unnecessary. The Genesis / MD1 has c-sync and c-video output from stock. Just wire the cable to the one you want.

It's just another one of those things that noobs do because too much Youtube has told them what the "perfect" system is, and don't really understand what they're doing. For the most part you don't need to fuck with sync mods unless you have a really picky monitor.

A lot of people seem to think this is a fix for the jailbar/vertical line problem that some of these systems have over RGB, and it's not. But the usual gang of idiots keep doing it anyway. The real fix is much easier.

I had a very old retrogamingcables scart cable.for my Genesis 1. Looked fine on my Framemeister. Then I RGB-modded my CRT and it turned out it was not fine. All the pixels had jail bars around them on the CRT, so I opened the cable up, and it turned out it was not wired for CSYNC. I changed the pin, and added the cap and resistor. That fixed the problem, and now it looks nice on the CRT.

I think a lot of upscalers have sync filters built in.

But anyway, the point still stands that there's no need to mod the console.

One theory: Folks are modding the sync signal because they already have the system open to lift the subcarrier pin for the jailbar fix, or are doing other mods like the triple bypass.

So my brother in Japan bought a garbage Mega Drive 1 for a quick project, and had a cable seller claim that the system has to be modded to get CSYNC. This is false. My point is for noobs who are just trying to get an RGB image out of their console without a soldering iron, there's no need to mod the cable. The TTL sync output from the console just needs a cap and resistor on it.

Just use proper monitors, prob solved. I know it's not really convenient having to keep more than one "viewing device" for your stuff around but if you have a big flatty with a scaler or something and a small cheap crt, say a 14" Trinitron, you're set for all needs, at least that's more or less how I do it.

And that csync mod thing sounds like bullshite to me.

Agreed, but not sure how that solves the problem here.

It seems that some people are conviced the csync mod thing solves their display probs which more often than not are the result of a bad choice of tv/monitor for a certain system according to my experience.

Then again, I'm not that picky anymore about all that stuff to be honest, I kept my two old crts for some systems but my main monitor is an older Philips flatty which still has a scart port and of course hdmi, some systems don't look that great on it but so what, outside of the arcade I had my deepest and most intense gaming moments with systems connected to shitty small tv sets via rf so why worry. Bit blurred, some interference, etc., boo-hoo, doesn't stop me from having fun one bit. I know I was guilty of that myself but now I think people put way too much thought and money into it. Just play the damn games, eh.

I'm at the age where I don't even get mad because of the TV going eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee when the white on the Konami logo screen appears, I'm happy the cheap cable works and I'm seeing games in not-composite. Damn it feels goob to be a gangsta.

I kind of get mad by all the misinformation in the console modding scene. My brother was just trying to get a quick and dirty MD setup to make a Youtube video, and he ran across someone telling him he has to mod it.

In not too many years from now, there won't be any non-modified systems left coz the hdmi-gen people Frankenstein'd them all.

They keep babbling about lo-fi and oldschool and original gaming experiences and whatnot but show them what oldschool was really like and they're gonna break out in 4k tears.

Yeah, this is the heart of what bugs me. You know I mod all the things, but a lot of people just getting into the scene think everything needs a mod and seem dumbfounded when I ask if they have plugged the system in to see if there's actually anything wrong.

FWIW the only mod my Neo home system has is a socketed Bios that Big Bear put in it for a Unibios. I've had all the video mods in the past, and got rid of those systems.
