I am constantly seeking to improve my skill and always welcome new ways/ techniques to learn from to become the best there is. Those of you with lawns and that do not hire Mexicans to do it for you (unless you have studied their techniques) and would like to share a bit of your style, I would appreciate it.

I tend to go outside in, finishing at the center of the area being cut as it allows to pass over the clippings once more. I'm not one for vertical/horizontal lines.

Oh and my rig isn't some fancy self-propelled, button-start lazy suburbanites' show-boat. I have a simple machine by John Deer from the Mart of Wal that was less than $100.

You have to be really good at it when there's 9" of snow over it.

So your're saying "Cut your grass as if there were 9 inches of snow".

-awesome.

Make sure the mower is in prestine condition and prepped for the mow.

Check the oil, air filter and sharpen those blades.

Inspect the lawn for sticks, rocks or other debris that could make your cutting experience less pleasurable.

Straight lines, none of that lets cut in a circle shit.

Don't be afraid to disengage those blades while setting up for the next pass.

And for god's sake, hold her fucking steady.

So you're saying "If one found himself challenged with a lawn of glitter, one would need precision to finish the task."

- awesome.

Play lots of EMO music around the yard. Eventually the grass will cut itself.

So you're saying "One's instrument is just as important as one's skill, nurture it so it may grow with you."
- awesome.

I am only confused with the "don't be afraid to disengage those blades while setting up for the next pass". Please explain.

just let it grow, grass doesn't need to be cut, especially if you have deer living around you, they'll do all the cutting.

I like to go in a different direction each time I do it...

for example, if I am going across the lawn vertically today, next time I do it I like to go horizontal...and then the next time I'll go back to vertical etc etc

dont know if that does anything at all - maybe just a weird habit I formed...

I disagree with this sort of.

I start in a circle around the perimiter to ensure a good level cut with fences, flower beds, etc.

Then I pass through the middle in lines. Once I'm done, I drop the blade down, and cross perpendicular to the initial pass.

Gives your lawn that great "baseball field" look

Rawk that fuckin' lawn!

I go around the perimeter once as well, then I go back the edge I first started at and begin to make lines. Makes for a beautiful lawn fo' sho'!

all I can say is don't rake up the clippings, they'll decompose and be good nutrients for the soil the grass is growing in.

if you have a riding mower put it on the fastest gear so you can get done sooner

if you are allergic to all the crap that gets in the air when you cut grass, wear one of those bird flu face mask things

I work from the perimeter inwards. Pushing fencing back a few inches to ensure I get a good cut up to the fence. Weed whacking is preferable to this method though.

s

That's how I used to do it. Had to watch for the old man....... He'd come out and yell at me for going to fast.

Flipped it over a few times on the side hill.....

..... Just get the fucking lawn done...
Then go back and run over all the places you missed (mostly corners and shit).

Mowing the lawn is the part of Home ownership that Idread the most...

I hate it.

Ive turned down leases that required me to Mow the lawn.... I'll shovel snow... But not mow...
