i'm getting both and at the same time praying that 98 ultimate match hits the US

I'm praying for that game just to be released at all in Japan, as it still doesn't have a release date.

Amusing, but obviously that would never happen in a real match.

Both '98 and XI have their share of bugs, but none of it is game-breaking (save for the Oswald "unblockable" on XI maybe). Both games are also pretty poorly balanced, but that happens when you have 35+ characters to select from. Of course they're still two immensely enjoyable games, and they're both different enough to warrant playing.

That bug was just an example, it was the first that showed in youtube search. 98 does have some exploitable bugs you can use in a real match, such as Takuma's unblockable fireball and athena's infinite. XI has basically the same stuff as well as you pointed out. About balance, I'd say 98 is more balanced than XI, but both are terrible in this aspect.

I don't get why people have to get all bitchy about it and can't just enjoy the games without getting into a pissing contest about them.

I fully agree that 98 is the best KOF... on the Neo. It held the top spot in my book for years. XI finally managed to topple it for me. Whatever anyone chooses to think of me or my tastes for that is really of no interest to me.

:360: :360: :360: :360: :360: :360: :360: :360:

Round and round and round we go. Same old shit, and only the faces change.

XI is ok its just getting boring now tbh, there not really anything new at all and i really hate the Tag & leader things.

The last decent KOF was 99, don't give me any of this shit about "come on its 2007" if thats the case why are people still playing 3rd Strike and MOTW.

If a games good it dose'nt matter what year it is.

One could easily say the same thing about KOF98... which was basically little more than a refinement of the KOF97 engine. For my part, I have a lot of fun with the tag stuff. The Leader aspect I can take or leave. Neither detracts from nor adds to my enjoyment.

If a games good it dose'nt matter what year it is.
In this much, we agree.

It's all a matter of personal opinion, folks. Remember, opinions are like assholes... everyone's got one, and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

I think the only decent KOFs after 98 are 02, Neowave and XI. About Third Strike and MOTW, they are the last games of their sagas and the pinnacle of each company, there's nothing that that can compare to them so they are still played. And even older games like Super Turbo still get a lot of play.

i'm pretty sure that you know in deep the tactical use of the tags or leaders

kof99 is a shit no one played or still play it seriously

ah, motw have 10 players left in howard arena no scene

*I* like 99, and don't care what others think, I don't care if it 'doesn't get played anymore'

I'm not part of some all encompassing fighting scene where games 'don't get played' or only have 10 people playing. pfft

I play whats fun

"no-one play it seriously"

so what?

I don't care about you permanently trying to a be a pillar of this community, thinking you're better than everyone else somehow.

But oh well.

99 was and still is amazing it has everything KOF is about imo, i'm sure you don't like playing it because moves don't combo or theres some shit about too many frames in moves etc etc

But as an SNK game you can just see and feel how much effort was put into it, its the last game where i felt "real" changes were made, i just don't think its happened with other games except 2003 introducing tagging (bleh). I don't really care about tourney level because lets face it who would like to hang out with people like you, but its great fun playing it with a couple of mates and thats where i get my enjoyment.

Motw has 10 players left in howard arena no scene....i'm not talking about arcade/tourney scenes i'm talking about real people, playing at home on there MVS/AES.

Anyway like i said XI dose't set me on fire at all, i'm sure at tourney level or whatever it makes your cock rock but whatever....i'd prefer play NGBC at least it fun and a bit different.

Who cares how old something is if its good its good. There hasnt been a Last Blade in ages and its still one of the best snk games.

98 is highly over rated imho. Its a good game but I agree that 99 was better. Also I think 2002 is shit yet everyone loves it. The music sucks, the stages suck and the detail sucks. I can't even be bothered with the gameplay with everything else fails. 99, 2k1, 2k3 and XI are my favorite kofs.

i don't play it due to striker shit
bugs over bugs, infinite juggles and such

ok i can always play 1P and enjoy..but after 5 minutes i feel bored

i still wonder why i joined this discussion (and no i'm not acting like a dick)
i am sick to read bullshit about:

the old snk bla bla
snkp suck bla bla
koreans put there some shit bla bla
cut&paste bla bla
kof isn't kof anymore
fuck you all the best kof is kof94

and so on

if a game is pretty solid and can entertain me
ok i play it

but when i see that is a buggy game that allow too imba shits i can't take it seriously

Motw has 10 players left in howard arena no scene....i'm not talking about arcade/tourney scenes i'm talking about real people, playing at home on there MVS/AES.

ppl that surely don't know how to feint or JD or GC (the most posters here)
oh, it's fun seeing ppl that enjoy a game without even knowing its full potential

that's because when i enter such discussions i always ask for ppl to know how to BC properly or tag with 2003 and XI

ppl complain over things that he don't even know..if i have to say that a game is completely crap or unfunny i have to go in deep and find a real reason

and hey, i own each mvs and atomiswave kof

Anyway like i said XI dose't set me on fire at all, i'm sure at tourney level or whatever it makes your cock rock but whatever....i'd prefer play NGBC at least it fun and a bit different.

ngbc is another solid game, i don't like it so much 'cause it's too circus-like but i have to admit that is a really fun game
i would say the same about kof99-00-01 but there's a crapload of imba stuffs that i dislike

These are fighting games from a 17 years old 2D system, I can't understand why people care so much about graphics and music instead of gameplay, but oh well. I personally think 98 and 02 have much better gameplay than 99, 2k1 and 2k3 (this last one is just terrible).

I love 2d graphics and I love seeing how great the graphics in some snk games are. Pixel work is like a magical art and sound is also very important. I'm not the best at fighters and all the hugely technical things like little bugs of glitches to get infinites dont bother me. I'm never gonna be good enough to play on a tournament level so I like the enjoy the game as a whole. I love the tag system so 2k3 and XI are ace to me.

I was with you, up to the 2k1 part. You must have meant 2000, not 2001, if you're going to complain about presentation.

The Neo Geo is a system that original spawned fans for its graphics, and I think most people who discuss the system on these boards still appreciate that. If you don't respect the graphics on the Neo, you're a Johnny-come-lately to the console.

No I ment 2k1. I really liked the change in music styles in the game. Which was great as I absolutly hated the music in 2k because it sounded like more older snk style which I've never cared for. 2k1 did have some rather crap stages thought. Like the race car track and the little fucking casino city. I loved the opening and the interface though. The opening song is still one of my favorites. Its just like how metal slug 4 is clearly the worst metal slug but, I think it probably has the best music out of all of them.

I like how you defended your opinion about 2k1. I may not fully agree, but it makes sense.

I'm not sure if Metal Slug 4 is easily the worst. Some people might like it better than 5. 5 does have some cool new vehicles, but it doesn't have any alternate routes.

Actually, 5 does have one alternate route. In mission 3 if I remember correctly...

i read on a site that on July 1, 2007, there will be a KOF expo type thing and it will reveal information on 98 Ultimate Match and Regulation A...it is possible that some US release information for XI will be announced, too...

Wiki says September 2007, but the link that it shows for it is irrelevant

I've played the Neo Geo in the arcade since 1992, and I know in that time its graphics were impressive. But the future is not now anymore when the regular consoles could achieve the same level or improve it, but still the Neo Geo games could excel in gameplay. I do respect the graphics on the neo, just no in the same level right now.
