OK, I can see the techie nihilist side of me has created some sore feelings and angry responses. So, I'll go with what's been said before...SNK anything, on any platform, beats 95% of whatever gaming is a top seller these days...small nitpicks aside. MVS, AES or DC, I'll still beat that ass like Ike Turner. :D

Well i just played the Burn (so sue me  ) and its just as wank as the Neo version!!

The new BG's stink there all flat with all the animation taken out only KOF97 one had animation!! They did put in the Garden from 99 (IMO the best stage ever) but ruined it by only putting the first bit in with no animation or onlookers what so ever in!!

The puzzle game is just a slider game irritating as the squares are also flipped around!!

And the Gallery is pointless like most gallery's!!

Like i said in a previous post if i can get one cheap i'd get it but just for the collection!!

Versus mode backgrounds encountered:
Neo Geo Land (no people)
AOF '95 dojo (no elevator)
AOF '98 dojo revisited
Orochi '97 (no fire/lightning effects)
Amusement park '97
Chizuru's stage '96
Kim Jae Hoon's BG
unidentified, panda, grass, water
Duck King stage, dancing club
Billy Kane? stage, cars blocking bridge
Geese dojo from Fatal Fury
Krizalid first fight BG
China team '94 I think

The observation about missing animation is true, a lot of the backgrounds are flat without the effects. I think this is an improvement on regular KOF 2000 because every fighting game should have at least 20 backgrounds, but some of the BG's just aren't the same without the effects. I guess that KOF2K puts too much of a load on the DC for the effects to be added?

Also, a lot of the stages aren't the same without their own music. (example: amusement park '97, where the music has the park sound effects as well) I'm not sure if there's a way to get the stage music, I haven't heard any of the music for the BG's above in puzzle mode. And I still haven't unlocked the Special pics even though all of the Practice and Challenge puzzles are done.

I'm still trying to find what exactly triggers a BG. The presence of an other striker associated with the BG is part of it of course. But I'm not sure if it is first player to pick, second player to pick, or some combination of both players.

I just want to pipe in and add my opinion here:

No NEO port will ever, ever satisfy me. If I want to play the [neo-geo]game, the only way I will ever play it and be satisfied by it is on the AES/MVS cart.

I'm the opposite of Tonk where the first time I played MOTW was on the MVS and when I played it on DC, I knew the only way I would ever play this thing from now on is on my AES...so I payed through the ear for the AES ver. Worth it.

KOF2000 isnt that expensive anyways, and all these little bg aditions are not really going to make me think it's better than the pure blood SNK programed original (note: maybe some old SNK programmers are responsible for this one. Who knows though).

Ports are cool to have (eg: I think the MOTW DC packaging is one of the BEST ever), but they will never substiute for the original. This rule only really applies to the Neo World.

Just play a game in vs. mode, the background/music is determined by the extra striker on the second player side.

Can somone please list all the extra stages they have encountered? Just curious to see what stages are there.

Unfortunately when they just put in the backgrounds they literally JUST put in the backgrounds and none of the other layers that would go on top of/behind them to form the full backgrounds you would see in the original games. So only ones like Psycho Soldiers KoF'94 and the such will have the animations. :(

Extra backgrounds encountered:

256 Story Skyscraper (Kizuna Encounter)
Chizuru's Arena (KoF'96)
Dojo (KoF'95)
Dojo (KoF'98)
Estate (KoF'99)
Geese Tower (FF1)
Inji (???) Port (LB1)
Li Xiangfei/Ryuji Yamazaki (RBFF2)
Mission 1 (Metal Slug)
Nakoruru (SS2)
Neo Geo World (KoF'95)
New Face Team/Orochi (KoF'97)
Psycho Soldiers (KoF'94)
Southtown Bridge (FF1)
Stage One (Burning Fight)

Extra music encountered so far (this does pop up ingame with the respective backgrounds):

King Lion Palace (Duh...)
Mission 2 (Metal Slug)
Stage Two (Burning Fight)
Rimururu (SS3)
Swordsmen of the Gorgeous Moon (LB1)

If people want I'll write up a quick faq about which striker triggers what background/music.

Damn straight Rade. After all, isn't that why most of us hang here? 'Cause we love the Neo.
I feel the same, unless it's a game I just don't care that much about, like KOF2K. I love my MOTW and KOF '98 MVS carts to death. For games like that, where my friends and I will play for hours on end, I don't want anything fucking up the experience like shitty resolution or loading times. It's the equivalent of DVD or laserdisc vs. video tape....yeah, it's the same thing, but if I really love something, I want to play it the best way possible.

i think neogeo buts too much of a load on your brain...

its called...LAZY PROGRAMMING

snk has a history of lazy assed porting.

saturn was wayyyy more than capable of runing every single neo game perfectly. but snk cant do ports, because they suck at it. period.

saturn does perfect cps-2 ports. cps-2 right there, is a much more powerful hardware than neogeo.

neogeo cant do ports of cps2 games

Actually this background is very close to the one in MOTW. While it looks like the fighters are a little further from the crowd, as far as I can tell it has most of the animation from MOTW. Plus there is someone new in the crowd. I put in MOTW for DC in my American system and switched it with KOF 2K on my Japanese system, using my s-video switcher. Color was a tad, a small tad bit more washed out in 2K. At least on my TV.

Alright, where does Baitang's BG come from? I remember seeing it in a Real Bout, but I've played too much already today to go back and play through the RB's. I think that one guy's staff is there...

It's the China stage from RBFFS. :D

Also note, the KoF'99 Estate, KoF'97 USA Fairground, and KoF'96 Arena are the default backgrounds for any extra strikers that didn't get their own (Vice/Mature get the arena, Rocky et. al get the Estate, etc.).
